A black TV screen may just be a sign that the TV is turned off, although if it is producing sound then you know that's not the case. When your TV has a black screen even when it's on, it could be possible it could actually be your external device and not your TV.
-Reset ALL components by unplugging them about for 5 minutes including the TV. -Be sure all COAX CABLES and HDMI CABLES are tight and properly connected. -If you CAN pull up the TV MENU when you have the black screen, update your TV's firmware to be sure your TV is up to date and rule out the TV as the problem.

make sure the caps you installed are the exact replacements. Changing voltage capacity or timing will cause the circuit to fail.

SOURCE: samsung lcd tv no picture just sound

While this is not a permanent solution, we've fond it helps... We have a Samsung LCD that does not turn on when there is too much humidity in the room. This only happens in the summer when it gets really humid. We moved our dehumidifier next to it, let it run for around 15 minutes and the TV turned on again, no problem. Lately, it's been raining alot so it's very humid. We've gotten into the habit of leaving our dehumidifier on through the night on low and we've had not issues turning on the tv since then. This is a hastle but it's either that or buying a new tv.

SOURCE: Samsung ln-t4042h turns on, plenty of sound, backlight works,...

Check the fuses on the T-CON board and also verify that it does have 12vdc feeding it. If you look at your screen in darkened room you will probably see slight glow on the front of the screen.

SOURCE: LCD TV Has Sound, Backlights Work, but No Picture

I have been having the same problem with my LG. people say there are bad capacitors on the power supply board. I don't have the know how to replace them and don't have the money to pay. I can get mine to work by blowing hot air with a hair dryer into the back of my tv through the vents over the board. Heat it up for a couple minutes and turn it off and then back on and the picture comes back. I just never turn the set off now.

Without getting all technical your LED backlights are bad, the part of unhooking one ribbon cable and not having the repeated cycle would be normal in this model set.

I have a Samsung TV with sound but no picture.

Hi James,

If you can see the faint picture in flash light means the power supply and the main board is working. The real culprit is the backlight. Even one bad LED in the backlight will switch off the whole array. To repair this fault the panel has to be opened and the defective LED or LEDs are to be replaced.

This is a complicated, delicate and risky job and must be attempted by an expert only. You may end up damaging the screen permanently if you have not done it before and try to DIY.

Good Luck.

I have a Samsung 32" LED tv model number UN32F5500FXZA. It has sound but no picture but passes the flash light test. I don't see any backlights. Any idea what the part is?

The backlights are located around the edge of screen inside the tv. Now this model is know to have LED failures. The LED strips are you backlights. The LED strips are powered by the power supply board but due to the fact that this model is know to have LED failures, I would recommend replacement of the LED strips, all of them, first. If you see a picture with the flashlight you can rule out the T-Con board. It's working. So the led driver board is the problem. TV Parts Universal TV Stands DLP Chips ShopJimmy Go here for replacement parts.
