Hello. If sound turns off for a couple of seconds it is actually not an issue but normal operation. When you switching between formats different software protocol is in use and it need some time to synchronize.
In case if sounds turns off and stays off you have to make sure where this problem is originated. If you have DVD player with both standard and high-definition outputs - connect them both to the different TV inputs and switch to see if problem is still there. If sound comes back while using DVD - you might have problem with your cable/satellite box and TV has nothing to do with it. If DVD "test run" creates same issue - main board in your TV have to be replaced. Vizio have many software/firmware - related issues. Regards. Russ.
any luck? might 37" vizio just had this problem, all of a sudden no picture sound just fine, I call vizio and they say could be motherboard, do I bother fixing this, or just get a new one?
