SOURCE: Power and sound turn off after 15 minutes
Is the red light blinking in the front of the tv. Counnt the blink sequence then I can give you more info.
SOURCE: Sony KDF-E50A10 stays on for 15-20 minutes then
The reason this happens the most is because of the lamp being weak. I have not seen anything else cause this problem. You can varify this by turning the set off and wait until it shuts down totally.
with the Sony remote, press the display button, the #5 button,
volume down button, then power button. This puts you into the the factory error code mode. If you see the lamp code with multiple errors and no other errors shown, the lamp is the problem.
Most of Sonys lamps have a aprox life of 3000 hrs. Some last longer and some shorter.
I hope this helps,

Actually the most likely not heat. At least heat is not likely what is causing the current issue your describing. The power supply in these and for that matter most AKAI televisions were very poorly manufactured. But the symptoms you are describing sound more like a common capacitor issue that the AKAI brand TV's are known for. Basically several of the capacitors on the secondary side of the board become bad and can bulge or leak and sometimes, they do not even show signs of going bad but still are not performing up to spec which is what causes the problem you are discribing. In some cases you may have other components tht have failed also but about 80-90% of the time it is due to bad capacitors around the board. There are several options online for repairing your power supply and some repair shops will work on them altough most will just want you to buy a new power supply. I repair LCD power supplies on the side and once repaired with better quality capacitors you should be able to get several more years out of your LCD.

This TV probably needs the convergence amp IC's replaced. When they go bad the TV will not turn on.Call a good TV Tech and tell him you want the IC's upgraded to STK 392-150 instead of the original STK 392-120 and check all resistors in the circuit for proper value. They could be burned or open.

There is a stuffed 10v 3300uf capacitor on the power board. You need to replace it.
Bellow you can check in the picture where the capacitor is located.
Notice that in this picture I have already took the bad capacitor out and replaced with two small cords to reach the bottom and test the new capacitor.
To reach this place is not fast, several layers of plastic and metal must be removed, but is not a hard task to take the capacitor out and replace it for another.
It works just great! Now it is back on track with awesome image.
