When the battery is not working ( flat -dead or removed ) it affects the CPU program which affects various operation such as what you describe . Mostly it can be fixed by the removal of the earth wire but to do the job properly use a scanner to reprogram the CPU.
Disconnect the earth connection to the battery first, then the positive connection, remove the battery fixing bracket and lift the battery out, keep it upright so you don't spill any acid from it. Put new battery in place and lock in with bracket, reconnect the positive terminal first and then the negative last. Job done, only problem , if you have a coded radio, you will have to re enter the radio code
Check your reverse switch on the transmission to make sure its hook up . You will have to probably replace it . If you have not tried that first . Use a light meter to check the reverse switch if you have power at the plug then its the switch if theres no power then check your fuse box for blowen fuss
