LG VX5400 Cannot hear during calls

During a call, I cannot hear anything nor can the other caller hear me. However, when I plug my wired headset in the the jack on the side, I can hear calls normally. The problem is that when I remove the wired headset, the phone still "thinks" it is plugged in. This is the reason I can't hear anything during regular calls without it. So - the problem is this: How to get the phone out of this mode. It is somehow stuck. Nopt sure if there is a phycial problem with the jack, or a bug in the software....

I was able to get the phone "unstuck" from this mode by plugging and unplugging my wired headset several times. Perhpas the contacts were dirty inside the jack...

The problem with your phone is the ear piece since the volume of your phone is at maximum, yet you cannot hear anything, this indicate earpiece problem, you will need to replace the earpiece of your phone in other to hear your caller or when you make call.

I had the same problem and I contacted LG first by email, this was the response: Please contact our Customer Care line at
1-800-793-8896 Ext 2, and they will be able to assist you with a
replacement. I called the number and they agreed to send me a replacement piece free. I got it in 5 days. May I also suggest that you ask for a manual to be sent also because I cant seem to find one and I would love to activate Name Alert for caller ID during drive time.

Phone settings then Display you should find caller ID on or off.

Loud background noise

Have you already tried to lower the volume on the headset itself some steps, during the call, until you hear the conversation clearly?

Cannot hear callers voice during a call but caller hears mine

if you cant hear caller voice. do one thing go to gallery and go to voice recorder and record some voice then save that then go to media and play recorded sound if its working means your loud speaker is working but not ear peic means (ear speaker) not working. so then you need to change ear speaker.you can do your self just watch video on online.

Muting the Microphone
In open the slide, you can mute the microphone
during a call by pressing the left soft key
[Mute]. The handset can be unmuted by
pressing the left soft key [Unmute]. When the
handset is muted, the caller cannot hear you,
but you can still hear the caller.

My LG vx-8700 vibrates, but no sound works on the phone. The caller can hear me, but I hear nothing (ringing, caller, voicemail, etc.) EXCEPT through the earpiece. I CAN hear all through the earpiece, but...

I just had this same problem. It is a hardware issue. Call verizon back explain the situation, they will call your phone to verify that the mic and speaker aren't working and they will send you a replacement within 2 days.

A temporary solution is plugging a wired headset into the phone and taking it out, it will work for a few hours.

My Jabra BT500 is on mute. Callers can not hear me. It worked fine at first now nothing.

When powered up and in "talk" mode (during a call) hold the volume up and down "bumps" simultaneously. This engages/disengages the headset's mute function.... Hope this helps...
