Hello! About 3-1/2 years ago, we purchased two (2) each new SuperScan 42'' color plasma TV's from Sears for about $2,000 each. The model No. is SSH2442. Apparently Hitachi America, Ltd. provided some of the components used in the manufacture of these plasma TV's. Their name appears in the owner's manual under a section titled ''Declaration of Conformity''. Within a couple of months of one another, both pasma TV's have now developed a dense verticle black line close to the center of the screen running from top to bottom of the screen. We brought in a Sears TV repairman; but, he didn't have a clue what was wrong. The repairman estimated it would probably cost about $750 at a minimum just to try to fix each TV. The vertical line on one of the TV's eventually grew to about 3'' wide and doesn't go away regardless of how long you leave the TV turned on. We took that particular TV out of service and put it into storage. Currently, upon turning on the second TV, a dense black verticle line that is about 1-1/2'' wide quicly shows up on the screen; however, the black vertical line goes away after he TV has been running for about 50-60 minutes. That time period appears to be getting a little longer each week as we continue to utilize that TV. With the exceptoin of the dense black vertical line in the center of both TV's the quality of the rest of the picture on the screen is good and the audio is good. How can those TV's be repaired? Do you have an idea about what electrical components have failed inside the TV and about how much it would cost us to fix each of these plasma TV's? Any information/suggestions would be appreciated.
This is the best solution for your problem as a 40 year experience with wires etc. Go to the source of your cable signal connector . Open it and clean the terminals with emery paper , sand the end of the cable shiny clean from corrosion , get a new barrel connectors with gold terminals if possible lengthen the ends of the cable , insert and tighten good, use thick rg-16 or rg 40 cable with good insulation ends crimped professionally with a crimpier or buy ready made , not from dollar store. Get a gold plated professional splitter if you need one or two , it will cost about 15 or more each . Make the cable runs as short as possible, using the thick good cables. If needed get a signal magnifier. From radio shack or the source etc. Connect them good and tight . Ground the splitters . Problem solved , you will get crystal clear channel 2 to 7 including 3 and 4 . Isolate the TV cable from other cables and power wires. Vitally
