I have just bought a new Tom Tom 720 & its working fine in the gps section & talks me to the correct address.
But i have inserted a 2 gig mempry card & downloaded through windows media player some songs. they appears on the card when i check it through Home software but i cannot acess the song directly from the device.
I have tried to switch from the devices internal memory to the memory card in Home. but it still comes up with the pre-set songs in its own memory but not songs on the card.
Would really appreciate some help

Reset the unit by pushing a bent paperclip or pin into the hole on the bottom marked 'reset' turn it back on, plug it in & charge it via USB overnight or as long as you can in the car, make sure the led on the top is green, tap the bottom right of the screen & check the battery symbol on the unit says charging underneath.
If this doesn't help.

You may be able to get "free" map updates from (illegal) underground sources. But that's not recommended. Yes, you're right, you can simply get a new TomTom GPS and get the latest map(s) for it. Consider getting a TomTom with lifetime maps ....and you won't have to pay for any map updates.
I will advice you reset the unit, this might help fix the
abnormality with the black screen problem. follow these procedure to
reset your tom tom gps. Make sure your battery is charged before you
begin. TomTom suggested
allowing your device to charge for at least 2 hours before resetting it.
Remove your device's SD card from the card slot. Find the "Reset"
pinhole button on the bottom of the device. Hold the "Reset" button
down for 10 to 15 seconds or until your device
resets itself. You will need a flattened paperclip or another small
metal object to reach inside the pinhole. Power the TomTom back on
and insert your SD Card. You have now reset
your TomTom gps, now try reinstall the update.
power button broke on mine a few years ago. Luckily it happened under warranty. Unfortunately the cost of labor does not make it worth repairing especially when new units have come down so much.
An hours labor would cost at minimum $100. New units with updated maps can be bought for as little as $120 a really nice unit can be had for around $200
Have you tried to connect to a desk top through the USB port to isolate the laptop or GPS issue.
If you get the same problem with a desktop than I would suggest that you perform a hard reset to the GPS. This is done through the pin hole in the case labled "Reset" insert the tip of a paper clip into the reset hole and reset the device.
If this fails try reloading the GPS software, there are instructions on the Tom Tom web site
To change language: See my other post on this subject: the steps are also applicable for your device.
http://www.fixya.com/support/t3818168-tomtom_130_apps_in_foriegn_language Basically: 'Change preference' (look for Spanner image Icon) -> Scroll right Arrow until 'Change language' (look for Flags image Icon) -> Select English -> Select an English Voice To set Home address:
''Change preferences' -> scroll right to get 'Change Home Location' -> use 'Adress' to enter new address or 'Recent destination' to select a recently entered 'navigate to' address.
Hope it helps. Let me know how you go and good luck.
You need a Tom Tom USB Cradle that will allow you to connect your tom tom to a computer. Assuming you already have one, then just connect the Cradle to a working USB port on the computer, then with the computer turned on, plug your GPS into the cradle. It should come on automatically and ask you "Connect to Computer?" Just press Yes on the GPS screen and your GPS will attempt to talk with your computer. It will automatically download updates for your system software and any mapping corrections made by you of other users. If it does not automatically download updates, then you need to launch Tom Tom Home. Once this launches one of the first screens has a button titled "Update My GPS" Just touch this bitton, or click it with your mouse... and you will be away.
