How do I replace the door gasket on a Westinghouse front loading washing machine? Have taken off the front steel ring that holds the gasket in place, but looks like I need to take the front panel off the machine to get to the back of the gasket. If so, how do I get the front panel off?

There are no screws in this particular model, looks like the back of the gasket is secured in a groove or recess, as the front of the gasket is secured around a rim and clamped with a stainless steel ring.

The step by step procedure to replace the head gasket are:

  1. Open door and pull on inside of gasket to expose screws or 1/4 nuts.
  2. Loosen[do NOT remove] all screws and pull old gasket out.
  3. Place new gasket in sink of hot water to soften it and put back around door.
  4. Snug up a couple of screws on each side and test seal by shutting door.
  5. You may need to adjust inner panel until just right..then tighten all screws

How to Replace rubber seal on front load washer

The rubber seal on your washer and similar front loading washers is a relatively easy repair. The seal is held onto the front washer panel and the fixed inside washer drum with separate spring-loaded rings that are reusable. So, don't throw them away! You need to remove the front ring from the front panel before you can remove the front panel. With the ring removed the gasket should be pushed into the washer; noting any drain holes, so that you can reinstall the new gasket in the same orientation. Once the outer ring is removed and the front panel is out of the way, you will have access to the ring holding the gasket to the drum. After the inside ring is removed, the gasket should pull off the fixed washer drum. You are now ready to install the new replacement gasket.

The amount of disassembly of the front of the washer is your option if it interferes with the installation. The door is usually heavy and it is useful to remove it from the front panel. Usually, a couple screws holds it in place. Removal of the front panel may also involve removal of the top of the washer and moving the control panel out of the way so that you can access the screws holding the front panel onto the frame of the washer. The locking latch may have to be temporarily removed but can be left in place if you simply push the front panel out of the way to have access to the inside gasket ring. It is useful to take pictures of each stage of the disassembly process to make sure your reinstall everything as it was.

Installation of the gasket starts with reattaching it to the fixed washer drum flange and then replacing the spring-loaded ring to hold it in place. Make sure the gasket orientation matches the original position. After the gasket is attached to the drum, you can now reinstall the front panel. If you unscrewed the latch mechanism when you took off the panel, now is the time to reinstall it as it can be manually held in place behind the gasket. The door can usually remain off the front panel until installation of the gasket onto the front panel is complete. Now bring the gasket forward and reinstall it on the flange of the front panel; secure it in place with the spring-loaded ring. Your gasket is now reinstalled. Simply reinstall the door and your repair is complete.

Tools needed include a blade screwdriver to help pry the rings off the gasket seal and one or two specialty screwdrivers (usually Torx or Philips) to remove the front panel.

My kenmore he2 plus washer door gasket is loose.

it goes on the groove in the gasket at the door , the side view of the gasket would be a V, it goes right in the middle. make sure the gasket is first snug on the metal frame groove. the spring is very tight, start at top then work down, use a flat screwdriver to pry it in at bottom. it may help to wet the gasket

Water leaks out of the bottom area of the door

There is a ring that holds the door gasket in place on the outside of the front panel and another ring inside the drum (the ring has a spring on it that allows it to be stretched.

There are 2 tools that LG has that make the ring clamp easy to install/remove, but you can also use 2 pair or needle nose pliers (one to hold the ring at the spring and another to stretch the ring). Just be careful not to damage the gasket.

Also, when ordering the new door gasket, make sure you have your serial number handy. There are 2 versions of the door gasket (depending on the serial number).

Hope this helps, please rate my solution.

Wm1832cw door seal re-installation

If you haven't gotten a solution yet, I did this myself. It is pretty hard to remove the spring that is holding the gasket in place. Once you do that, just replace the gasket and reattach the ring w/spring.

Rubber gasket Bello!

it is very hard to get the ring on front load washers,
it is much easier to remove the top. bottom and the front control panel
then the door and support panel.
now you have access.
some times you have to remove the counter weight in some models before putting on the ring.
if you can do it without removing these items you are very very good.

Tub to door gasket need replace

I changed this gasket in about 30 minutes last night and the appliance place was going to charge me $150.00 to do this. All i did was pulled the steel ring from the front of the seal and then i had access to the inside of the gasket and all that is there is a hose clamp holding the gasket on. I pulled out the old one abd reinstalled the new one. It was actually very simple to do. I am a 22 year old female and i did tis by myself. Very simple no repair man needed. Just get in there and look and you will see how easy it is to do. The hardest thing to do was getting the inside lip of the gasket to stay in its ridge so i could get the clamp on The hose that is at the top just pulles out of the fitting and comes apart to re install in the new seal.
