Be sure to connet the sound card speaker and install sound drivers for the moniter to get it to work you can go to http//www.hp.com select compaq and slect your model to download the correct drivers, also make sure you don't have any speakers muted in the mixer driver by double clicking on the speaker on the lower right hand corner on the lower right hand corner.
If your old monitor was a Compaq, it had slots for the speakers to hang on and provided the power for the speakers. The speakers still got their input from a cable that plugged into the computer sound output jack. If those speakers are the style Compaq supplied when I worked at a Compaq service shop, they originally came with metal stands that fit into slots on the back so you could stand them up on their own, and a 12-volt power adapter so you could use them without the monitor. If you don't have those pieces, you can buy a suitable power adapter (12 volts DC at 1 amp) at Radio Shack but the speaker stands are hard to find. You could try eBay, or just make a holder of some kind. (A friend of mine used those little wooden stands you can buy to display plates to hold her speakers when she got a new monitor. They worked out pretty well.)
Or you can replace the speakers. A new set would have everything you need. But those Compaq speakers sounded pretty good, so if they're still working you might want to keep them.
Check your speaker connections it sounds like you have a 5.1 or higher sound system. 5.1 means left front speaker, right front speaker, center speaker, right rear speaker, left rear speaker and subwoofer.
Voices in movies all get channeled to the center speaker (you can usually hear it a bit from the right and left front speakers as well). If your center speaker is disconnected or not working, you will only hear the background sounds.
does monitor have speakers if yes it will have a speaker connection with the video lead connect it to speaker output on computer. If monitor does not have speakers you will need to buy or use external ones
Hi,
Your problem is prevalent anywhere , whosever around the world,,, you had tried everything but nothing happened? Well , the porblem is internal....if you are a hobbyist, you may open your monitor and try checking the circuits where the speaker is being located, check for loose solder. busted wiring , or the speaker itself, maybe one of the wires is cut or dislocated. Word of wisdom,,, bring your monitor at nearby electronic shops if you wish spend a little of your savings. This way you may out of electric shocks if you do it after all. Leave it to the experts....good luck
Hello
First of all you need a sound card on your computer with a Spk. (Speaker) or Phones (headphones) Out Jack it might be a symbol of a small speaker or headphones. You have to be sure you are getting a actual sound output signal from this sound card too. If the sound card is not working your moniter speakers would not have a signal to drive it. You also need a 1/8" Stereo 2 male stereo plugs on both ends, one end plugs in back of moniter other plugs in back of computer like I mentiond above. Make sure your Mute button is not selected on your computers volume button usally at bottom right of screen. Make sure the volume buttons are up to aprox 3/4 up also. Then for last on the moniter look in the menu i think you might have to keep pressing the menu button but i kind of forget now but its a Spk setting and volume setting in this speaker setup within the moniter as well make sure this is turned on and set at a higher volume level as well. Thats about all I can say without taking the moniter apart and checking the jack and wires and speakers. I would suggest you take it to a electronics or a tv repair or computer repair person to go any further then this. Hope you take time to read all of this I tried to put every step in here to help anyone out with this problem. Thanks for reading.

I suspect that when you reattached the monitor back you might have moved the agp card out of her slot. Check if you have connected properly your monitor to the pc
And if the agp is in it's slot properly attached.
Hope it helps, good luck!!
