I can try this how ever I read that these Dell models where on recall for broken mother boards... I belive my motherboard has just given in. Some people posted fixes by closing all vents for laptop and leaving it on for 40min to fix cracks in soldering. Other say to replace mother board but since it's a reoccurring issue I might just get a new laptop... (depending how expensive the board is). I tried to reformat since i was told my display driver might have bitten the dust but it didnt work neither.I can try this how ever I read that these Dell models where on recall for broken mother boards... If the LCD display worked until the processor over heated and then went blank, and would work again once it cooled down, then yes I do. As you described above, the screen going blank and blank still on reboot ( no time to cool down ), then the next day the LCD displayed again ( cooled down over night ). Appears to be directly related to the over heating problem. But if the display problem progressed to the point that the PC would boot up cold and the display was still blank, then I would think your graphics card will need repair.
This is Vista you are running and there are a couple of options. I'll go for the easy one first
Boot and insert Vista install or recovery DVD (any Vista disc will do for this)
Reboot and hopefully it will offer the option to boot from the DVD. Take this option and follow it through until you are offered the option to install Vista or repair your computer. Just follow things though from there and it MAY repair the boot problem.
If it does not offer you the initial boot option then look on the initial boot screen for the boot options key - probably F11 or F12 - and press that during initial boot to obtain the boot options screen
Without being about to do a HANDS on inspection of the laptop, it could have a couple of possible problems.
Here is my Best guess as to the probable cause. You have a loose/damaged connection on the Display screen. More than likely the power supply line to it. When it reboots it cools enough to pull away from its connection. Then gives you trouble rebooting until you apply and remove power several times. Why this is working by my theory is that each time you apply power it is sparking in that loose connection and slowly warming it back up until it finally connects again. Then all is fine until you reboot again and start the process all over.
This is a theory and I Can NOT guarantee that this is the problem. If it is. Then unless you are experienced at dealing with small electronics and high voltage. I would strongly recommend having it looked at by an experienced technician.
ollow the steps below
to clear the datastores off and simulate a hard reset:
- Reboot the device by pressing @+1+0
- IMMEDIATELY press and hold the 'R' key
on the keyboard. Continue to hold the 'R' key down
- The device will reboot, and when the
initial boot screen (the 4 face buttons animation shows) displays, the
screen will clear and the device will reboot again.
- Let go of the 'R' key at this point,
and the device will reboot with no datastores, and force a resync.
Try loading drivers for the LCD monitor.Right click empty part of desktop>>Properties>> settings It should show monitor name instead of plug and play monitor on ---- Video board.Go to Advanced>monitor>driver on this screen.

have you tried changing the resolution, if not try this power on your laptop press F8 run in safe mode go to device manager an disable your display adapter after disabling reboot windows after rebooting go back to device manager enable display adapter and go display properties an change resolution.
Okay, we got a fix by having another monitor hooked up to our computer and going in to display and changing the display settings to a lower setting. The screen resolution - turn it to lower - I guess somehow - the setting was too high for our monitor. Don't know how it changed itself though. Anyway, change it to a lower resolution then re-hook up your monitor and see if it works. The reslution can be pushed back up until you notice the problem again.
