I have a Panasonic Plasma TH42PX50 with similar sounding problem: 3 years old with no picture and thin (1mm) colored verticals line over entire screen. Is the TV toast? Worth fixing it? I can buy new one for $1000 now.

Unplugged the tv fir 2 weeks. When I came home I put it on and the screen has almost faded out. Tried rebooting and turning it off and on. It's about 4 years old.

The manufacturer name is Myson Century. At this time I can not find a replacement. If anyone out there can suggest where to get this part I'd appreciate it.

Picture problem

Usually that symptom is caused by cracked solder joints on the vertical output IC. As the IC starts heating up, the picture starts breaking up at the top with several "dancing" dark lines appearing, the top scrunches down and then when the vertical quits altogether, the screen goes completely black. A good slap on the side of the TV might make it happen faster or clear it up temporarily. If you have experience working on PC boards then you can resolder the pins of the vertical output IC but if you have never soldered parts on PC boards then allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.
