When the choke is full up you are flooding the engine, not allowing it to run. There should be a notch on the throttle control where you move it to after it starts. Moving the throttle control fully up helps get the engine started but you do not leave it there to run. Check the air filter as well it may be dirty.

My tractor with 27hp Kohler engine runs fine without engaging the mower deck. Once engaged and I start cutting grass or go uphill, the engine starts to slow down. Also, it smells like exhaust fumes.

Try blowing the air filter out with compressed air. Or replace the filter. Make sure the choke butterfly in the carb is fully open, adjust the choke cable for correct function.

Briggs Stratton 5hp I/C starts ok, runs, but will not rev

My money is on a partial blockage of the main jet or the passageway to it. You're having to force it to run through the idle jet by fully choking the incoming air. There's not enough gas coming in with the choke open to allow it to run.

I'm thiniking total carb disassembly, carb cleaner and an air compressor combined with a ton of patience will take care of the issue.

this sounds like your float is stuck inside the carb, what you would do is take the carb off the mower and pop it a part pretty simple just line up all the pieces when you take them off so you know the order putting it back together. now that you have it a part spray it clean with carb and choke cleaner and check all internal parts are tight and working properly and reassemble the parts. need any more help just msg me.

New honda hrr auto choke hard to start

sounds like it may need the carb clening out, but it could be the auto choke not closing when cold. there was an issue with some of the early auto chokes on the gcv135/160 engines so check to see if the choke flap is in the closed position when starting from cold, run the engine for approx 10-15 minutes and see if the choke flap has opened fully.leave it to go cold and see if the choke flap has returned to the closed position

I cannot start my Suffolk punch 43s petrol mower, can anyone tell me how the choke should be set?Or where can I download a free instruction manual.

As far as I can tell, there are no downloads available. I eventually gave up and bought a copy from a mower museum. You will need to know the approximate age, as several diferrent engines have been fitted.

If you have the old red engine, the choke lever should be at right angles to the line of the carb IE pointing straight back.

The newer green engines are usually marked, but of not, remove the air filter and look into the carb throat. When the choke flap is CLOSED, the choke is ON IE cold start position.

As soon as the engie starts, move the choke to approx 50%, then fully open after 30 seconds or so.

If in good order, these engines are a 1-pull start. Fit a new plug, then spray WD-40 or similar into the OPEN carb thoat. If there is no sign of life at all, you have a coil failure (or possibly a points problem if it's ancient).

If my VT110 doesn't have some choke on, it will cut out.

If you mean it dies when you take the choke off,You need to have the jets on the carb cleaned.

Mower Dies after choke Releases

Hi, check that your carberter has not got the pipe from it to the engine either cut or loose as it seems that your engine is getting to much air.
May just be the hose clip around the intake tube a little loose.
If this is not the problem check with the seller whom you bought it off as the carb may need reset.
