K45ss mixer works fine except when whipping cream there are small black specs appearing in the bowl that probably have gone unnoticed with darker mixtures. I suspect some type of oil leak

Yes this is probably a oil leak. it can come from two possible location one of which can come from the transmission gasket that goes around the mixers center seem, if this is broken, worn or improperly seated it will need replacement. part number for the transmission gasket is 4162324. another possible location is around the cirrcular mixing gear at the front of the machine. if the seal inside the unit are damaged or worn this can cause oil to leak striaght down into the very food you are preparing. part number for the seals are 3180163. there are 4 of them, and they would require taking apart the whole unit. hope this helps.

Thanks

I own the 6 QT Stand mixer. Is there a Is there a 4 or 5 qt bowl that works with this mixer?

Kitchenaid does not make a 4 or 5 quart bowl that would fit your 6 quart mixer, but other 3rd party companies do!
You may be in luck.
I haven't seen this bowl in person, but it apparently will fit your 6qt mixer. Here is a link to a page selling the mentioned attachment. It comes in a set, with appropriate wire-whip attachments:

When mixing it leaves black specks in the food. When I make whip cream I can see black specks in the cream.

There is a problem in the planetary, there is wear or lack of lubrication causing wear in something in that area. Replacing the planetary is not a big or expensive job.

There should be a small lever on the base in front of and below the bowl. It will move to 2 positions. It sounds like you have it set for the small bowl but are using the large bowl. Press down on the lever and move it to the other side. If I'm right, that should correct the problem.

The motor is loose a little and needs adjusting up, because it hits the bowl when in motion.

I think from your description that the the head connecting to the base shaft needs tightening. Put the mixer on it's side UNPLUGGED. Look up inside the base and you'll see a small set screw.
With a flat blade screw driver tighten that screw and it should stop moving. If it doesn't you probably need another shaft because it's worn. If after tightening it stops rocking but it still hits the bowl there's another screw at the front, on top of the neck under the head. Turn this until it clears the bowl. Good luck!

Kitchen Aid Classic mixer

There are 2 possibilities, the attachments are worn out where they go on the shaft, simply replacing them could fix it, the other is the shaft is worn out inside the planetary ( where it spins), if it moves allot, 1/8 " or more from side to side, the housing is probably worn, and the planetary needs to be replaced, easy job, don't know cost, a new mixer may be in order.

This is the FAQ from the Kitchen Aid website. It explains very well how to make the necessary adjustments under the question: My flat beater, wire whip and dough hook are scraping against the bottom of the bowl when I use my mixer. How can I fix this?

How do you attach the ice cream maker to the mixer

I beleive that you need to have a bowl lift version to use the ice cream maker. Check you owners manual. If you do not have a manual, you can see it online HERE.

Mixer motor shut down

Mine did almost the exact same thing one day. I have the Artisian Model, It would do it on any of the lowest speeds. Dont know if this will help you or not but I just ran mine the next day on all the way high with the spash guard on for making whipped cream for about 6 minutes full throttle and for some reason it hasnt went slow and shut itself off since then. Mine is about 7 months old. I called Kitchen Aid but their customer service all of a sudden seems to not know english worth a poo...

Try running yours on full blast for 5 minutes with something simple in the bowl. If its a 250 watt or higher make whipped water out of 2 cups of water and a tablespoon of cornstarch. Run it till you get what looks like whipped cream. Oh yea. Use the Balloon whip. The lubrication in the motor is supposed to last for at least 5 years but I have seen on numerous post's that if you run them on all the way for at least 5 minutes the oil will even out in the motor. Running the mixers at low speed alot will cause the oil inside not to move as freely since the motor doesnt heat up the oil in the gears.

Good luck.
