GE PSS25MGMA Crushed ice only, nothing else will select on panel.
My GE PSS25MGMAWW side by side will only dispense crushed ice. I got this refrigerator from someone. It was used as a second one with very light use, water was never hooked up to it before, so the ice maker and water dispenser was never used. I hooked up the water, and the selector pad had/has crushed ice selected but will not allow to change to cubed or water. All the other buttons, ie, lock, light all work fine. It is making ice, I put in a new water filter, unplugged the fridge for a minute, thinking it needed to reset itself, checked for kinked tubing, but still nothing. Am I correct in thinking I need to replace the board?

Yes , replace the main board . Part number WR55X10656 . There is only partial communication between the main board and the dispensor board . This main board , is behind the 8 " X 10 " panel , on the back of the refrig . Do not replace the dispensor board . I have never come across a bad dispensor board yet . Always a first time though .

You have a solenoid switch which switches the dispenser back
and forth from crushed to cube. It could be stuck or not working or the parts
connecting it could be disconnected or broken. You will have to observe to see
if any parts are moving and if any noise is coming from the solenoid

If the dispensor light switches to cubed or crushed , the panel is good . Remove the ice bin , and hold the light switch in . Press the arm for CRUSHED ice , and if you hear a buzzing or hum , then the auger motor is frozen . Use a hair dryer directly on the " forks " for a while , ocasionally holding switch and activating arm , until the forks move . Lower the freezer temp slightly and reinstall the ice bin .
I have a GE TFX25ppbaaa refrigerator. The ice maker corkscrew motor would run and provide crushed ice only. The corkscrew motor would not run when the switch was moved to the cubed ice ( half moon) setting.
I replaced the large Light/ water/ crushed ice/cubed ice switch , ( product service number GEH WR55X129 ) ( part number GE 162D6372 PO17 )and it fixed the problem. Cost was about $43.00.
At least yours is making ice. Mine wount even make ice. While toubleshooting my prob, I notice a metal rod on the bottom of the ice tray. This rod opens and shuts a plastic "trap door" in the tray. The position of that door determines whether the ice is crushed or whole. If the trap door is open the ice falls through the dispenser freely. If the door this closed the ice is force thorugh metal teeth where it is crushed then dispensed. Open the freezer door and take the ice tray out. You should see a hole at the back of the freezer that the metal rod goes through. In that hole there is a plastic square that moves up and down. If the set your dispenser to crushed ice, leave the door open, push in the door switch at the bottom, and press the dispenser. The plastic square does nothing while the motor is turning. That allows the door to stay closed and forces the ice through the metal teeth. If you set the dispenser to whole ice and do the same thing the plastic square is suppose to lift up forcing the door open and letting the whole ice drop freely. The plastic square probably does nothing even if you set it to whole ice. That mean the trap door never opens focing the ice to always get crushed.
Unfortunately, I have no solution because mine works and I had no need to investigate further. I hopes this helps you figure out the problem though
Make sure that your ice tray is properly instaled. There is a rod that must go into a hole. When you select ice cubes rather than crushed ice a solenoid raises which moves that rod. It then opens a flap so the cubes can bypass the crusher. Either your rod is not in the hole correctly or the solenoid has gone bad. The rod that I am speaking of runs along the underside of the ice tray. It has a spring on the rear end that holds the bypass flpa closed.
Take the outer frame off the dispenser area with a plastic putty knife. Start at the bottom and gently pry off, trying not to snap off plastic tabs that extend into door. Most likely you will have to replace the "interface" (part #
WR55X10415) It is the small board where you select water / crushed ice / cubed ice. Relatively easy to replace. good luck.
