This is a common problem and is caused by faulty or missing chips onthe compatible cartridges. You will need to get them replaced otherwise the printer will not operate. Contact the vendor where you bought them from and ask for repalcements or a refund.
It mean that the black cartridge is not recognised. It the black cart is original or compatible? Some printer won't recognise cartridge, if the black and colour is not same type. Try to install the black only. Is it recognised?
My Epson R285 will not recognise compatible cartridges, mainly the black.I ran out of black ink and installed a compatible cartridge but it did not recognise it.To get the printer running I had to buy a genuine one which worked.I then ran out of all the other colours soon after and installed compatible ones which were accepted.I have now ran out of the black again but the printer will not accept the compatible cartridge. How can I solve this problem as the printer has accepted black compatibles before. Thanks Padgy
some problems with compatiblecartridges can be solved by taking all the ink out and powering the printer off then back on then put the ink back in, you might have to do this a few times also make sure no ink or dust has built up on the pins.
More info needed here. Are any lights on or flashing? Have you tried going through the cartidge instsallation process again (but just taking out and putting back the same cartridges when told to put in new ones)? Are the unrecognised cartridges genuine Epson or compatibles? Have you tried putting genuine Epson cartridges in (even empty ones will do) to see if they are recognised? A response to these question will permit me to give you much more specific help.
Try putting genuine ink it. If it still refuses to recognise the carts then it need to go back to Epson for a warranty repair. As an Epson eng 90% of the time, rubbish compatible cartridges are the source of such issues. They can even make the printer stop recognising genuine carts.
Do not mention to Epson that you used compatibles or they may refuse the warranty repair.
