Will not read disk recorded on Samsung DVD digital Camcorder

I recorded a disk on my samsung DVD camcorder. It is a Sony DVD+RW disk recorded in VR mode. It plays in the camcorder and in a DVD player but will not play or even be recognized by my Plextor 740A burner. When I load the disk into the burner and open the disk, it does not show anything on the disk. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

The disk needs finalizing.
However this then will make the disk unusable for anything else
Switch to CR R or DVD R as appropriate

Sony DCR DVD108 not finalizing disc, lost data

I noticed that too with my "VR" (and NOT "Video") formatted disks. I don't think you can finalize the VR ones. Instead you have to use the Sony Import tool to grab the videos. If you are like me you probably remember using the import tool with Video formatted disks BEFORE finalizing them and it takes forever to copy them. They must be finalized to view on other devices, copy using the import tool quicker, etc., but VR formatted disks seem optimized for importing (and can be edited on the camcorder directly.

Unable to read dvd-rw from sony camcorder - wants to format

I had a similar issue. I could not read the camcorder dvd drive (sony hdr ux5) from my computer. I even tried several different computers, it reads the drive but cannot recognize the format. I made sure the disk was finalized, but did not help. Then I found the this article http://forum.videohelp.com/topic351360.html which suggested I down load CDRoller which I did (14 day trial version), finally I could read the drive on the camcorder dvd drive. Hope this helps you, if you have not fixed it already.

Formatting the disk

Yes, the mini DVD-RW will work on this camera. When you insert the disk and power on the camcorder (with the mode on DISC), the camcorder will try to read the disk, and if it isn't formatted yet, the LCD display will offer you the option to format it (in VR or Video mode). Simply select and click to format the disk

Can play videos but cannot copy to computer

Make sure your DVD is finalized before playing in your computer. You can't play it outside of your camcorder until you do.

I recorded on a disc and now it's not reading it

May i know what type of disc are you using?

Is it DVD+R? DVD-R? DVD+RW? DVD-RW?

You might wanna try to transfer your videos to your computer via USB streaming to check if you can still retrieve your videos.

I can't see the dvds into any dvd player

Most DVD players can't play DVD-R or DVD-RW unless it's finalized (if you record to DVD+RW, it may work ok, but fewer DVD players work right with RW format discs).

Obviously, you need to ensure you are actually writing to the DVD (eg, will they play back on the camcorder). You should see if there's a menu for finalizing the DVDs, that might do it. There are occasionally problems with finalizing discs on some of these DVD camcorders... these discs may not be readable on any DVD player, but might still work in a PC.

The other problem is that some camcoders record in DVD-VR format, which is a special "easily edited" format for DVD camcorders only... regular DVD players don't usually support this (well, some new ones might... this is one of those "evolving standard" issues). You'll probably need a PC to read the disc, edit, convert to a conventional DVD, etc. if you're using this format.
