Flash icon stays on with red line through it and flash does not work at all. Is it worth it to take it to a camera repair shop to fix? Will the flash need to be replaced all together?

a daft question I know but you have pressed the flash button (right hand side of the group of three on top) to change flash mode and is it clicking like the other two?

blinking red light means camera is trying to charge flash circuitry. if you cancel flash mode, you can use taking picture. But if you want to repair, your local repair shop would charge around $35 to 75 depend on what they really want to charge.

I had a similar problem. Camera was dropped. Flash would not work and camera would not allow pictures to be taken with low light. I was able to take photos with flash off.
I took the camera to the local repair shop who thought it may be fixable with a replacement flash circuit board @ $80. Turns out the problem is deeper and the main circuit board may be the problem. Not worth repairing in my case.
Check w/ Canon support even if camera is out of warranty. They do have a loyalty program and offer some refurbished cameras below market.
1.Turn off the camera. 2.Install a set of new or fully charged batteries into the camera. then turn it ON 3.Press the Flash Status button to scroll through the flash options until Fill Flash (the lightning bolt icon alone, with no other letter or symbol) is displayed. This forces the camera to use the flash. 4.Take a picture. [If flash still doesn't work contact Kodak support line 1 800 235 6325 (23KODAK)]
There is a Force Flash setting on this camera I believe. Force Flash means Always Flash(on). If this does not work, then flash is burned out I would guess.
The TZ1 has been replaced by the smaller, newer and nicer wide angle TZ3 and latest TZ5. Consider selling you defect TZ1 to a repair person on ebay, and buy you a good used, refurb, or new TZ3 or 5. Prices are very good, and your is worth about $25 to $30 with all accessories that came with it.
I had the same problem, called Samsung and they sent me a shipping label via email. I sent to their repair 12/15/08 and got the fixed camera today, 12/18/08. Very quick service - they replaced the lens. Camera now flashes.
The flashing eye indicates that the red eye minimizer feature is enabled. My NV 10 has buttons on the back that line up with features on the screen. Try to find the one that looks like an eye. That option is often times tied to the flash feature. The flash may be able to be turned on with the same button.
Same problem with the red flash icon. I can take a picture if I turn off the flash as well, but have to turn off the flash every time I open the lens. Have had the camera for 5 years and haven't had a problem. We needed to replace the lens cover recently and after we replaced the cover we started having this flash problem. It was working fine before the cover came off which leads me to believe we've changed our settings somehow....pleas
The flash icon appears in the upper left corner of display or it appears as circled flash icon? If flash is open and appears a circled icon, then there’s a malfunction contact that don’t communicate to the camera that the flash is open. Your camera needs service! Be sure the upper part of the flash is unfolded, pointing directly in front of the camera (not downward), because the sensor is just in this second folder. If the icon is not circled, press the right arrow until only the lightning symbol appears (forced flash). Try a shot! If the flash doesn’t pops, then your camera needs servicing (burned or broken lamp or other malfunctions).
