Screen Freezes When I turn on the roadmate it goes to the blue Magellan screen and then nothing, if you unplug and plug in several times it will eventually work. Any idea why and if it is fixable, (my husband suggests an axe)
I have this same problem, I did register with Magellan, but the only upgrade they offered was 3.32 but my software is 4.42. The web page tells you not to install 3.32 unless you have an older version or you will trash you unit. I see other people have live version 5.?? where do I get this or is the 5.?? maps... Then I would have to pay for it... Also I have no CD for this thing .. is there a way to get the software so I could format the HD and reinstall the software that is already on it...I have this same problem, I did register with Magellan, but the only upgrade they offered was 3.32 but my software is 4.42. Hello Liz, You may have two problems. If your unit is several years old, the battery may need to be replaced. First charge the battery overnight. To get the screen unfrozen , you need to remove the screws on the back, open the case, and unplug the white battery connection . Reconnect the battery connection after a few seconds. If this works, it is usually a temporary fix . Either your battery does not hold a charge or your charger connection is poor at best and can not deliver a full charge to the battery. It could be both.
if its freezing on the magellan screen, there is a special utility from magellan to fix this issue. fortunately i havent had to use it yet so use caution while installing.
This is the boot screen, Remove the power connection, and reinsert while you press the "Cancel" button at the same time, if done correctly, your Roadmate should continue to boot and enter the user mode.
Jossie,
The cable that connects your hard drive to your main board could be loose. If it's not loose, then it's your hard drive. The only thing you can do (if it's not the cable) is send it in for a new hard drive. Unsure what the costs will be but the magellan logo screen is produced from memory on the main board while anything after that is when the hard drive takes over.

White screen is giong to either be your LCD or Hard Drive. I would try changing out either one of these. If your warranty's out or dont' want to pay to send it in, then try this. Make sure the cables coming from the LCD to the mainboard (the large PCB (circuit board)), also, make srue the cable going from your Hard Drive to the Main board is tight. I'd even release each cable and plug them back in. Hope this helps.

Does the initial Magellan screen appear? If it doesn't display anything and it's just blue... :( Normally means that something on the main board is your problem. Which, means your out of luck. What happened to it? It just suddenly stopped working? Let me know.
