Probably because it requires a different electrical current. Is your machine made to run on 220 volts? If so, it will not work on regular 110 volts (standard household current). You'll need to have a special line and outlet to power 220. The outlets are different because you really don't want to be plugging a 110v appliance into a 220v outlet, or vice versa.

I am trying to hook up my stackable washer and dryer. I havee a 220 plug 30a what do I need to do so I don't have to go back to home depot and get whole new plug in and plug?

If the unit has a 30 amp/220volt plug, then you will need a dedicated 30 amp outlet from a 220 volt line from the panel. You can not switch the plug to work with a regular (15-20 amp) outlet. Have an electrician install a 10 gauge 220 line from the panel to the unit. good luck!

your dryer can be wired to run on 120 / i would not do / very costley to run . . this is some times done for display on the sales floor . best is to get gas dryer or have 220 wired to dryer .. if in home . **** ..

Changing a 3 prong plug into a regular outlet plug.

Your plug is for 220v and a regular wall outlet is 110volts. It simply will not work. You will burn out your dryer, and place yourself at risk of electrocution.

How do I hook the electric cord to the dryer?

Most electric dryers are 220 with a neutral. Inside the machine, they use one leg and neutral to power the timer and the light both of which are normally 120 V

Do you have a volt meter? And do you have a plug in the wall into which you want to plug the dryer?

If you have a volt meter measure between any two of the three slots in (or on) the wall outlet. You will get 120 VAC or 220 VAC. Measure the remaining slot you didnt measure and any other slot. You will get the same results. at the common point where you got 120 (120 from both sides, that is neutral. Inside the dryer should be an indicator of where the hot legs gl as well as the neutral. You can check which wire supplies which blade with a simple contuinity test to be sure if there are no marks on the wire.

I assume that your u.s. dryer is the standard 220 volt, and your question is what is the voltage in Mexico where your father resides. Most places in Mexico will have the 220 volt supply available. This should be easily found out with any cheap 15.00 meter. If the receptacle accepts the dryers plug, it is more than likely the proper voltage.
( Maybe your father is really wanting to save energy and realizes that his clothes will last forever when they are hung up to dry! )

they dont sell adapters like that..you have to change the cord and it wont hurt the dryer at all

MY drier heating element shows 9 ohms continuity, it also shows 120 volts into and out of it when the drier is running. But the heating element wont heat up?

Have you checked the voltage at the outlet? You're supposed to read 220-240 VAC at the heating element. Your dryer heating circuits require at least 220 VAC to work. The motor, however, only uses 120 VAC. That's why your dryer may be running, but the heating circuits aren't heating. I would go back and check your outlet. You may be missing one leg of the 220 service, or have a loose, burned, or broken wire in the plug or terminal block (on the back of the dryer). Let me know what you find. I hope this helps you.

there is a possibility that your machines may not work properly in the usa as they generate electricity at a different frequency than uk 60 hertz usa 50 hertz uk also most of the equipment in the usa is 120 volts not 230

If you hook it up to 120 volts (by connecting L2[red] to common [white] the dryer will operate, but your heating element will only produce 25% of the heat it would on a 220v circuit. The drying time would be about 3 hours, and the auto dry setting may not work. Heat difference is about 5000 watts of heat on 220v, vs 1250 watts on 120v circuit.

Quoc Doan I have Maytag LSE1000 Washer/Dryer combo in my garage now (I just bough the use one). I plug only the Washer (110v, not the Dryer 220v)) I got the Drum's light on (when I open the door), but the control panel did not show any light (power), so do I need to plug the Dryer (220v) also, to get the power for control panel? If the control panel needs only one power source from Washer (110v), then what I have to do (fix) to have the power for the control panel? Right now my Dryer is in the garage, therefore I have no 220v to plug in! Please help. Thanks. Q
