Hi,

There are a number reasons why this might happen:

  • The backlight has gone (Find a dark place and shine a torch into the screen and see if you can see an image in the background, if you see an image then the backlight has gone) - Needs a new backlight (Engineer to remove and fit) or have a new panel fitted.
  • The panel has died - Need a new panel
  • A cable has worked itself loose or is broken
  • The inverter has gone - Need new inverter
  • The driver board is faulty
Thanks

I have a sony pfm 42b1 that now has the standby red light flashing continuously while on.... what to do??

It is possible that the TV was hit by a small power surge, and the audio processor is locked up. You need to unplug the TV from the wall for 40 MIN, and that will reset the audio processor back to normal.

My sony Sony PFM-42B1 blink 5 times

When a Sony TV flashes five times, that means that there is an AKB circuit fault.
This means that there is something wrong with the video.
Try first unplugging power for few hours, if that does not work, call a technician, as several IC and components must be tested and eventually replaced.
