We do not pack the clothes into the washer and we have set the spin cycle from high to low and yet our clothes are being ripped inside of the washer. They come out with the rubber on the clothes as if the rubber was burned onto the clothes with the holes being in the same area. I know someone else with the same washer having the same problem. My warranty is expired! What could it be?
Frigidaire washer sucks. I'm tired of this useless machine ripping my clothes. You need to change your bellows(boot) kits around the door on front load. I have changed this kit twice now and each time, I spent $200 in repair fees. I wished I never bought this washer. Will never recommend to anyone i know.
We have a Frigidaire AFT6000FS front load washer. We started using this washer about 2 months ago. Today when I was doing wash I noticed several holes in one of my wifes tops. I see this problem was listed several times by other people who own Frigidaire washers.
SOLUTION- simple fix for 99% of you out there that don't want to spend $1000 on a new machine. Place your garments in a mesh bag. I bought several of them from Target for a few dollars and place all of my delicate and nicer items in the bag for wash. It works well for only a few dollars and a minute of your time.
It will also stop the smaller items like socks, underwear, bathing suit strings from being sucked into the drain and causing mechanical problems.
I have washed me fine/delicate clothes in a mesh bag now, but the washer has also torn holes in my duvet pillowcases, and sheets. Too big for a mesh bag. :(
Our washer has torn up t-shirts, socks, underwear, bras and sweaters. We've been careful not to overload the washer but there's appears to be no logic as to when, why or how this happens. This is incredibly disappointing.

I have started finding pairs of small holes (about 1/4" wide) in clothes, mostly in older t-shirts but also a duvet cover. The washer is almost 2 years old (out of warranty). I ran my hand along the entire inside of the drum, and found several things that had gotten trapped in the tiny crack under the ridge of the drum, or the slightly bigger crack where the spinning drum meets the stationary back wall. Very thin plastic and metal that is in your pockets can fall out and slip into these spaces. Most of what I found was plastic, but there also was a metal paper clip lodged in the crack at the back. I suspect this is what caused the damage - the cracks aren't big enough to grab onto fabric by themselves. If you have this problem, I recommend running your hand over the edges of the drum in front and in back, and also along the ridges that run across the middle.
Same problem. I just talked to Fridgidaire and they said they have no recall for the washer. I have tried smaller loads and everything. We lose a garment a wash load lately! Fridgidaire needs to step up to the plate and recall the part and fix it!
We need to get a lawyer to file a class action law suit.
no joke. We have had SO many clothes ruined by our washer.
I am so glad I found this post! I have been having this same problem. Burnt gray rubber on clothing and holes that almost look like the material was disintegrated! I was blaming my son, thinking he had some sort of who knows residue on his clothes!
We just started having the same problem after 5 years! Have you found a fix yet?
Same hereWe have we burnt gray rubber & holes in the clothes. I will not get this machine again

I have a Frigidaire ATF 600 Affinity Washer that has been destroying our clothes since I purchased it in May 2008. The clothes obviously get caught between the front gasket and the drum and holes are burned into the clothing in the spin cycle. This is just another big corporate American company, denying a problem - blaming me for overloading the machine!! It s a nightmare and what these *******'s that manage companies like this is that I will never, ever buy another Frigidaire product of any kind. GE is another example of how not to do business. Do they turn profits?? Hell yes, buy buying nad building **** and marketing it to decive, then sell extended warranties and deny coverage, and lay off workers, right before the end of the year like clock work to reduce costs and show a profit to their share holders. - Do I need to repeat that? - Spread the word
I also have a problem with the frigidaire front load dryer that goes with this washer has ripped nearly three hundred dollars in clothing in less than 6 months. Everyone says this is the first time they have ever seen this happen when I call them, then they accused us of over loading. even after they said they fixed the problem the last 6 times I sent it in for repairs. I say we should all get soemthign from thsi crap.
I am glad to see that I am not the only one having this problem. I thought I was going crazy. I have 4 girls and a lot of there clothes have come out ripped in the wash. One day I was removing a blouse and it was caught in the hole of the drum and ripped. Had to throw $1000 of clothes away cause of this problem. I tried putting heavier clothes like jeans on outer parts of drum and delicates in the middle but some still fall through the cracks and are eaten. I should not have to worry about washing anything.
OMG! I have been having the same problem for several years with this machine! It has ruined so many expensive sweaters, comforters, etc. my whole family has been so upset with favorite clothing items ruined! People think I am crazy when I explain the burned gray rubber and shredded clothing and small holes throughout all of our clothes. I finally broke down and bought a new washing machine. My children cheered! I think Electrolux/Frigidaire should be financially responsible for this. Clearly has been known for many years.

I have had the SAME problem with the Frigidaire front load washer ripping my clothes....it is doing that burning rubber ripping thing that many people are posting about!! DO NOT GET THIS!!!! Front loaders are just pretty to look at, stick with the old school washer and dryers because these new ones will RUIN your clothes!! It has ruined COUNTLESS clothes of mine and my husbands!!!!
Same problem here. It's put holes in several pieces of clothing and torn to shreds a few others. Pieces then get sucked into pump and clog it so it won't drain. Word to anyone looking for a machine - DO NOT BUY THE FRIGIDAIRE AFFINITY!
Same here and I just went and bought a top loader. The Affinity is out in the Garage and I posted this POS on Craigslist with a clear report of the issue.
I have the same problem. The washer is ripping clother with the gray rubber being burned into the fabric. Now, the entier gasket tore and the wash water ran out all over the floor.
My frigidaire front load washer is also ripping my clothes and my clothes are getting caught between the drum in the front of washer.
Everything Frigidaire is JUNK as well as what they make for others...solution do not buuy Frigidaire.
Many many years ago when they were General Motors Frigidaire they were quality but not the Electrolux Frigidaire is a piece of junk-expensive BUT made very cheap-
The gasket is the problem. After awhile the gasket gets soft and grabs onto the clothes. Try spraying silicone on the gasket befor each load.....seems to help.
Thank you silicone for a solution instead of more complaining. I have the same problem so I solved it by placing all of my more delicate materials in a small mesh washing bag. It has eliminated the problem for those articles of clothing. It has never damaged any of my bigger items like jeans, sweaters or towels so I don't bother with any of them, it appears to only affect the finer and thin materials.
I put my fine fabrics in a mesh bag as well which seems to help, but my duvet and sheets have ripped also. :(
I also have had a problem with the machine tearing / burning clothes and also suspected the grey rubber part. I took the advice of replacing this part (if you do not have patience, dont do it). What I found was the protusion at the 11:00 position had broken off. this part appears to push the clothes back into the washing machine frum avoiding the clothes from sitting against the rubber part during the spin cycle. If this part is broken, run on slowest spin speed or replace the part. As for everybody complainign about the draining, that was last month. while you are replacing the rubber gasket, clean the trap. I found about $6 in change, headphones, paper, and hair. kkthis screen has to be there or this stuff will blow the pump. Hope this helps

Same here....I am tired of losing an article a week....I thought It might be the dryer...but Watched this load and same...looks burnt and has holes! Small load as well! Mine is about 4.5 years old....did not start until 2 years ago! off and on!
We have the exact smae problem! Our frididaire washer alsoo sucks! It is ripping all my clothes! Is anyone having any luck getting in touch with Frigidaire about replacing the waher?!
We have the same issue holes in our clothes. We don't overload this as we thought that might be the issue. Doesn't see to help. I will be calling Frigidaire to see what they say. Maybe a letter to one of the news organizations would help.
We have the same problem. Our affinity frigidaire front loader washer has put holes in hundreds of dollars of our clothing with the rubber residue marks left on the clothing. It doesn't matter if the load is big or small. I am assuming that the clothing is getting caught in the rubber boot and twisting the clothing until it puts holes in them. We have also had issues with smaller items such as socks and underwear getting sucked in between the drum and wall and getting lodged into the rubber boot and stops the load from draining. Good thing my husband is handy or else we would have spent over a thousand dollars in repairs because it has happened 4 or 5 times. I have tried using the small garment bags for socks and underwear but those even get caught and torn especially buy the zipper. I will never buy another front loader.
I have checked clothes in without hole out with and fridgedaire says they have never had a complaint before that i am the first. some of you say that you've talked to them. my machine is less than a year old and i'm going to call service techs every day i say any one with this kind of machine and this problem lets band together and wear there phones out. we can all do it together!!
Hey friend, thank you for your post!
I see that your Frigidaire washer, FWT449GFS2 is not entering the final high spin cycle. It is possible that you could have a defective motor or timer. Since it could be any one of these underlying issues I would recommend you having a professional come out to the home for the repair of your washer. -Matt

We've experienced the exact same problem as Gramling describes with holes and rubber burned onto the clothes. Our washer is a Frigidaire FTF2140ES front loader.
Previously we had water leaking from the washer. A technician corrected this under warranty by removing a small sock that had been pulled into the drain causing an overflow. We suspect the ripped clothing since then is due to the clothes being partially pulled into the drain and torn.
My Frigidaire Affinity ATF7000FE washer snags and rips most of our clothes as well. Hubby not to happy since I was the one to isist this was the best one to buy!
I have contacted the store where I purchased the w/d and waiting for a reply.
Same with my new Frididaire washer. It cuts most of the cotton clothing items though I tried smaller load, lighter cycle, ... The 2 technicians came and said 2 different things: one said because these clothes were "used" to the older machine we used to have. The second one said because we mixed cotton with heavier materials such as permanent press, ... Well, we're experimenting according to their advice to see if it's really the case.
I have found tiny holes on many of my cotton shirts. It's so annoying. I actually didn't even think that it could be the washer until now. I thought maybe the clothes were being snagged on something else in the washer (like zippers or anything sharp), but it seems this problem isn't too out of the ordinary. I wonder if the company would be willing to repair the problem or replace the washers that are doing this?
I have the same problem. Any ideas?
I have the same problem. i took me a while to clue in that it was my washer that was creating that problem. Its getting more and more prevalent. I am pissed off and on top of it I called Frigidaire and they said I had to pay 80$ to have a technician come and check it out. In my opinion they should not only replace my washer, they should compensate for all the ruined clothes. And they are asking me to shell out 80$????
The technician better not come up with a dumb "your clothes are used to your old washer" theory.
My washer is a Whirlpool Duet Steam. I have lost several articles of clothing and had numerous repairs to try and fix, ranging from new gasket to water level sensor. The latest loss was an ambercrombie shirt! This is a far cry from the "best washer you will ever own" sales pitch!
Is there a class action lawsuit for these lemons. Is whirlpool and frigidare the same companies?
My clothes get torn and come out with rubber dust - it took us a while to figure out what's happening - no solution so far!
fortunately we have the extended warranty, but Frigidaire refused to pay for the clothes
I've been experiencing problems with tears and holes in clothing since we purchased a Frigidaire Affinity washer and dryer in May of 2008. I've continued to experiment with load sizes and cycle controls--but NOTHING is helping. I finally called a local service provider who is coming to look at both the washer and dryer this week. I don't know if it is the washer or dryer or both. Looking forward to what the tech says.
Same washer and dryer and same problem with tiny holes in light knit clothes. It's driving me crazy! I don't recall having this issue with my very old top load washer. Thought I was doing a good thing for the environment when buying a front loader. Little did I know that I would be going through more clothes!!! Anyone find a solution?!?!
My dryer keeps eatting my clothing. It has already ruined $300 worth of clothing! The clothing keeps getting caught in the drum of the dryer near the door. The dryer is about a year old. I would never recommend this dryer to anyone. I am in the process of contacting the better business beauru and trying to get the dryer and clothing replaced. I doubt I will have any luck but figure it is worth a shot...
We purchased the same washer / dryer. I have lost track at how much clothes has been ruined !!! I feel like I'm gambling everytime I run a load...What is going to be ruined this time?? Today I noticed that the rubber gasket has been worn so thin that it has a couple small holes . I went on line to find a replacement gasket and I can't find one. These are less than 2 years old. I can't believe that the company is geting away with this design flaw!! I have two small babies and no washer !!!!
i have teh same problem with the washer tearing my clothes and leaving a residue from the rubber gasket throughout the wash. please let me know if anyone has found a cause/solution for this problem.
Thanks
i have the same exact problem. I am calling them today and if they give me any foolishness about this I am going to refer them to the various websites that are posting the same exact problems. The next I am getting a hold of the FTC or whoever takes care of recalls and alert them to all of these websites too.Something has to be done.
Frigidaire Model "LTF 2140ESO" Some clothes come out with rips and rubber residue on them.....I have not seen where it is coming from but with what yall are saying I will look at the gasket.
If it is the drain I may design a plastic "grate" to cover the hole so nothing can be drawn into the drain.....Of course mine is out of warranty....
purchased frigidaire ltf2940fs1 at lowe's. Third load of wash was a comforter, washed per settings/instructions in manual. Comforter was shredded in several spots and inside of door gasket was full of rubber dust from gasket.
Same problem here. The worst was when it ripped the heavy-duty zipper of a winter coat in half, completely destroying it. Have tried smaller loads, slower spin, nothing helps.
Similar issues, holes in clothes and machine will not complete a cycle. Just over a year out of warranty(of course).
Same Problem, even when spinning on a slower spin and the washer is not overloaded! Gray rubber marks on the clothes and rips!! It is ruining a ton of our clothes and costing a lot!
I have a Maytag not even 2 years old and it has been ripping 1 or 2 shirts each load. I wash only jeans and towels in it now, everything else I take to the laundromat.
My Frigidaire Model ATF6000FS2 has torn $1000's of dollars worth of cloths. The maufacturer will not do a thing. This was one of the few washing machines still made in the USA. I would never buy Frididaire again.
My Frigidaire model ATF6000FS1 has torn $1000's of dollars worth of cloths. It has been doing it since it was brand new. The manufacturer will not help. I would never buy Frigidaire again.
