What is the default ip address for powerconnect 5212

You must assign an IP address to the switch to gain management access over the network. You may also need to a establish a default gateway between the switch and management stations that exist on another network segment. You can statically configure a specific IP address or direct the switch to obtain an address from a Boot Protocol (BOOTP) or Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server when it is powered on. Valid IP addresses consist of four decimal numbers, 0 to 255, separated by periods. Anything outside this format is not accepted by the CLI program. notice.gif NOTICE: By default, the IP address is assigned to VLAN 1 through DHCP. If you select the bootp or dhcp option, IP is enabled but does not function until a BOOTP or DHCP reply has been received. Requests are broadcast periodically by the switch in an effort to learn its IP address. (BOOTP and DHCP values can include the IP address, default gateway, and subnet mask).
To display assigned IP settings using the CLI:
  1. From the Privileged Exec or Normal Exec level mode, type show ip interface and press <Enter>.

The assigned IP address and subnet mask displays.

  1. From the Privileged Exec mode, type show ip redirects to display the assigned gateway IP address. Press <Enter>.

The following example displays IP settings assigned by bootp or dhcp using the CLI.

Console#show ip interface

IP address and netmask: 10.1.0.1 255.255.252.0 on VLAN 1,

and address mode: User specified.

Console# show ip redirects

ip default gateway 10.1.0.254

Console#
Before you can assign a static IP address to the switch, you must obtain the following information from your network administrator:

  • IP address for the switch

  • Default gateway for the network

  • Network mask for the network

To assign a static IP address to the switch:
  1. From the Privileged Exec level global configuration mode prompt, type interface vlan 1 to access the interface-configuration mode. Press <Enter>.

  2. Type ip address ip-address netmask, where ip-address is the switch IP address and netmask is the network mask for the network.

  3. Type exit to return to the global configuration mode prompt. Press <Enter>.

  4. To set the IP address of the default gateway for the network to which the switch belongs, type ip default-gateway gateway, where gateway is the IP address of the default gateway. Press <Enter>.

  5. To save your configuration changes, type copy running-config startup-config and then press <Enter>.

notice.gif NOTICE: Only one VLAN can be assigned an IP address. If you assign an address to any other VLAN, the new address overrides the original IP address. The following example shows how to set a static IP address using the CLI.

Console(config)# interface vlan 1

Console(config-if)# ip address 192.168.1.5 255.255.255.0

Console(config-if)# exit

Console(config)# ip default-gateway 192.168.1.254

Console(config)#
To configure the switch for DHCP or BOOTP:

  1. From the Privileged Exec level global configuration mode prompt, type interface vlan 1 to access the interface-configuration mode. Press <Enter>.

  2. At the next prompt, use one of the following commands:

    • To obtain IP settings through DHCP, type ip address dhcp

    • To obtain IP setting through BOOTP, type ip address bootp

  3. Press <Enter>.

  4. To save your configuration changes, type copy running-config startup-config, and then press <Enter>.

I have a linksys router and i have tried to access the configuration menu. I have tried the common 192.168.1.1 with no sucess. i have even looked at my details for the ip and it is 192.168.24.1. That does...

Resetting by pressing the button for a total of sixty seconds usually works! While holding the button you can also power cycle the router once or twice. That should put the router back to default settings. Its frustrating sometimes but usually works by prolonged resetting and power cycle. Good luck!

LG dongle anwf-100 will not connect to wireless router. It finds my ap which at the moment has no security. When I try to connect it says can't find gateway and gives me an ip address of 0.0.0.0.0

Did you configured your wireless modem to be an DHCP server and generate the ip automatically? See your modem configurations and try to use 801b only, 801g and 801n didn´t worked with me.

Gateway not pinging from dwl 3200 ap . AP=192.168.4.250/24 in the same subnet, gateway=192.168.4.1 , gateway assign also on wireless adapter , wireless adapter address also in the same subnet with right...

Remove the cables from the gateway router to the switch to leave only the uplink cable or connection to your telephone socket.
Test connectivity by plugging your laptop or computer directly in to the gateway router and test web access using an Ethernet cable.
Your laptop /computer may need to be rebooted for new ip. If ok reattach the unmanaged switch a retry by attaching the Ethernet cable to one of the ports on the switch. If ok, this limits the problem to the access point.
The main problem is that you have two layer 3 devices connected together by a layer 2 switch.
The solution would be to retain the configuration on the gateway if all ok. Change the access point to a different sub net and SSID to the gateway router.
If you can shut down the broadcasting from the gateway as all WLAN will be done through the access point.
Ensure that DHCP and DNS is switched on, on the gateway router.
All computers should be configured to use the gateway router address as this will allow the gateway to provide routing across the network.

Access point configuration

Access is easy to configure, you just need to understand basic setup you need to do and just have to find the same options on the configuration page of any wireless access point.

Things to setup.
1. Local IP Address ( You will get default 192.168.1.1 according to your device guide, still you can set different (not recommended, if not expert) )

2. Setup WAN IP-This could be dial up connection (PPPOE) or Internet IP Address provided by your internet provider.

3. Setup Wireless access point SSID, this is what you will find when you scan for wireless connection available

4. Setup security settings. You can setup WPA or WAP to protect security. Just need to select and assign key/password which you will be asked while connecting SSID

Follow the link for exact information on how to setup your Access Point

ADSL ISP provides same address for IP and Gateway

Can you manually change the WAN IP on the router?  If so, give it an IP like 123.12.167.5 and set the gateway address to 123.12.167.1.  If it asks for a subnet mask, give it 255.255.255.0.
If she has a Linksys router, you may need to change the operating "MODE" on it.  A lot of Linksys routers have 2 modes of operation---Router mode and Gateway mode.  For her configuration, make sure the Linksys is in Gateway mode.  This will fix the NAT problem.

Cheers!

Default gateway

When you ping the gateway with your computer it could not communicate with the gateway.
Assuming you are connecting via a network cable.
Either the network cable is broken or network card is faulty or it is configured incorrectly.
Make sure your TCP/IP address of your network card has the same TCP/IP address range as your gateway.
