Picture flicker I tried posting 3 times and not going thru..I don't think anyway...Well here goes..My just turned 3 year old plasma has started a bad 2-3 minute flicker when its first turned on daily..The flicker has started to come back while watching it now, not just on start up..It is a rather bad flicker and seems worse if watching a sunny football game as opposed to watching a tv show with dark or night scenes..The flickering may be once every few minutes to several in a 10 second period..Hitachi told me when I called why complain for a tv that old !!! I told the guy for $2700.00 I was wanting more than 3 years and his attitude..My problem is no shop closer than a 45 mile drive will look at it..I keep hearing Plasma is a no no for them..A new 42" is now around $1200.00 and the one shop said they will look at it but the picture needs to either go all the way out or they need to keep it and try to see what it is...maybe a week maybe 3 weeks to see....HELP ME...Thanks, Ed

That problem is usually cause of faulty capacitors on the power supply board..
Just follow this instruction to fix your TV..
1. Open the back cover of your TV. 2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord.. 3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors.. 4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value.. 5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter
This tv seem to have two problems. The problems that the tv take a long time the tv to turn on,the tv power supply board have dying capacitors most likely. That the board where the power a/c cord plug into it.The picture flickers badly this problems is harder to determine because this causes by two backlight buffers boards X,Z buffers boards could be either one it is dying. This tv should get an estamate by a shop or shops and repair it by them, bcause the tv must have to be doing replacing x munbers capacitors components to the tv power supply board and alot more work to trouble shoot and to detrmine which of the buffers boards it is the causes of to the picture screen to be badly flickers and replacing it.
the panels going bad. sometimes the panel will seperate dew to the heat that it produces. most of the time its not economical to fix these type of issues.
Three guns Red Blue and Green in the picture tube of an old CRT set. If one of the guns goes out it effects that color. Sounds like one of the guns inside of the tube is going out, To costly to replace for such an old antilog set that will have to have a convertor box next month anyway.
Mine just started something similar. When I turn it on, you get sound, the red light flickers, then before the picture comes on it cuts off. Sometimes I can spend an hour or more turning it on over and over again until finally the picture comes on. This TV is not old - only a couple years old and I spent alot of money for it as it was a more expensive model back then than they are now. Well, they don't make them anymore, but anyway it still cost more than a comparable plama HDTV. I think this really sucks!
