We have a Maytag Neptune Top Loader Model 6800 awn. I toke the front panel off and put the washer on spin cycle when it kicks on it turns fine one way but when it reverses it only goes a little way then locks up no codes on control panel is it the clutch or what ?
I will point you to apostfor FAV6800AWW clutch maintenance/replacement.I also recommend a $60 clutch for the machine in that post.
The FAV6800AWW/FAV9800AWWuse a One-Way Roller clutch bearing. This allows CW Clockwise rotation Agitate/wash cycle to drive the transmission which will rotate the tumblers. In Spin Cycle the Motor Controller will reverse the Motor direction and rotate the Clutch Pulley in the CCW/Spin cycle direction. The One-Way Roller clutches lock up in the CCW direction Spin Cycle direction. To make sure I’m clear is the Clutch Pulley locking up in the CW direction the Agitate/Wash cycle direction? If so it sounds like the One-Way Roller clutch bearing are frozen/rusted up good and that will mean a clutch pulley replacement. You won't get away with clean up and re-lube of the Roller Clutch bearing.Just to let ya know there is Troubleshooting Guide in the console of the machine.Pull the power cord and remove the three #15 Torx screws top back of the console and tilt the access panel back, it should be in there. It has a schematic of the machine which was handy for me until I got a soft copy.

How ironic!!! True story,I happen to have one of those, no spin spin spin.
Well two possibilities, First and cheapest, the door lock switch, if that dosn't do it well, the its is a diode on the main cuircut board. Ohh! By the way my neptune is siting of to the side, and Im still using my old washer. GOOD LUCK
Hey bob_marianne , Common problem with the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW. If you have basic mechanical skills you can fix. It’s just a tight work area to work on the Clutch in this machine. See this post for the details and you can get your $1K machine back in service. Sorry to say a lot of these machines get tossed for a $50 dollar clutch. Let me know if you have any questions after you read the post.
I had that same problem. I lift the top up by using a screwdriver and pushing in clips that are in the front. Lift lid carefully from the front. A hinge in the back will hold the back of the lid. Look where locks are located and see if they are connected. On my washer the connection was barely on. I reconnected the lock and have not had problem since. Good luck.
