Near the bottom edge of the screen on my Wega KF-50WE 610 has appeared a ''blue haze'' that appears after the TV has warmed up. It started a few days ago as ''fuzzy blue dots'' about the size of silver dollars. At first you could see them only when the screen was not on a channel (black background). Later as blue dots when you were watching a channel and now it has spread to a fuzzy blue horizon from the bottom of the screen... Any thoughts ?

This was caused by a defect in the optical block of the TV. It will only get worse with time and the only way to fix it is to replace the whole optical block which is very expensive (over $1000 usually) and time consuming (you need to take the whole TV apart). However, since it was a defect, there was a class action lawsuit that caused Sony to extended the warranties for certain models on the optical block for parts and labor. Call Sony to see if your model was one of the ones they extended the warranty for.

Difficult to address the black screen problem without diagnosis but the blue discoloration is definitely a bad optical engine. Sony extended warranty coverage for this until June of 2010 but no more. Cost of the part is around $900 so I wouldn't pursue any further repair.

Blue hue accross bottom of screen - Sony KF-50WE610

You can try doing this, turn on the Tv and select the service menu, if that tint also shows on the menu, it's most probable to be your DMD board, but if it doesn't it might be the video board..
