To much detergent is what causes the odor in washers, you shouldn't use any more than two tablespoons a load, not only does it make the washer stink but it eats at the spider gear like acid and will short live your machine

A lot of machines can suffer from this problem. It is usually down to a bacteria build up between the drum and the tub. The majority of appliances that suffer form this have been used mainly on 40 degree washes and with a biological detergent.
The best way to get rid of this smell is to place two tablespoons of washing soda or soda crystals in the detergent drawer and then run the appliance empty on the 90 degree wash. You may have to repeat this treatment before the smell goes but it will go eventually. Hope you've checked out & cleaned your filter.
You can give me an excellent rating for the help, can't you? Thanks

Non HE detergent will cause your front load washer to have odors. If you do use HE detergent and still have the problem, use the "AFFRESH" product in the washer to neutralize the odor.

Laundry room smells like rotten eggs

Does the sewer drain line have a trap at the bottom that prevents sewer gas from entering the room? If the smell seems to be coming from the washer itself, run a wash cycle empty with a cup of baking soda, detergent and hot water to clean the interior.

The washer has a very bad odor. I have tried using different soaps, but it still smells bad. The clothes smell "flat"----no odor----but the laundry room is getting to smell harsh. There is nowater outside...

thedrain has sludged up causing partial blockage. soap powders cause this . check the fall on your drainage. Either attempt self cleaning or get a drainage company to investigate.

Front loader smells like stale cigarettes during cycle

Make sure that you are using high efficiency (he) detergent. Pour 2 cups of vinegar in the tub and fill the detergent tray with vinegar. Run it on the hottest, longest cycle. You can also use a Front load cleaner such as Afresh, made by Whirpool. I think that Tide makes one too. Vinegar is usually readily available. At the end of washing for the day, leave the door to the washer slightly open so that fresh air can get in and dry it out keeping moldy, milduey smell down. If it mildews, use a rag and bleach water to clean the boot seal. Hope this helps.

1 year old LG washer

Greetings rh48192,

Are you using HE (High Efficiency) detergent in the unit? Most times the odor found in the units is because owners use regular laundry detergent instead of the low sudsing HE type. It is imperative that you use the proper detergent to avoid odor in your unit. Some of the fixes are to run an all bleach cycle with no clothes in the unit. Also, to leave the door to your unit open when not using it or at least cracked to allow the unit to dry out. Make sure to wipe out the gasket of the washer, sometimes trapped water there can also smell over time. Finally, there are some commercial products you can use to lessen or eliminate the smell. Here is a link to one product you can purchase at your local Best Buy™ store. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8550249&type=product&id=1188560830483

I hope this helps!

Musty smell, but can't tell from where

I have the same problem with a 3 month old ge front loading washer.after 1 month it started off smelling musty..I thought it was my imagination, now at 3 months old our clothes smell so bad I think we might just have to buy new clothes! everytime I wash a load the clothes smell worse and now you can even smell it just walking into our closet 2 floors up. A new washing washing machine should NOT be doing this! so far leaving the door open in between washes has helped a little but I plan on tipping it back and finding the hidden filter today. Isn't it lovely that they don't mention a filter that needs monthly cleaning or it's location in the manuals?!
