After a snorkeling session the camera takes ages

I have a pentax w30. After a snorkeling session the camera froze and i now takes ages to turn on (sometimes not at all) and then i end up having to take the battery out to turn it off again. The buttons don't seem to be working and its stuck on green mode.

SOURCE: Unlock Pentax Optio S5z

I had the same problem with the exact same camera (Pentax Optio S5Z) that happened the same way. I searched everywhere on the web and finally found this post that didn't have a solid solution. So I started experimenting with different button combinations and finally figured it out.

Hold the OK button while turning on the camera. The screen should indicate that it is in audio record mode. Now press the Menu button and use the navigation keys to find and execute the system reset option.

After turning it off and back on it should function normally.

SOURCE: Green Mode stuck on

remove the batteries and the memory/SD card. replace the batteries first. power up the camera (this will help save your pics from possible deletion). If you can get to the menu of your camera, here is where you'll find the 'green mode'. check the settings. if its on, turn it off. after saving, reload your SD card and try to take another picture.

I got water inside my Pentax w30 last summer and now it just turns on for 2 min then shuts off and won't come back on for any length of time maybe 10 sec then shuts off. that was last summer and it is...

I'm trying to do the same thing. Mine showed exactly the same symptoms as yours, but now (six months later) it will stay switched on. I'm trying to get to the lens assembly as it has some water deposits (salt!) on the inside. I've tried to find a manual that shows how the camera comes apart, but without success.

Pentax w30 will not turn on. I think the battery may be shorted the light on the charger now blinks instead of staying lit while charging and turning off when fully charged?

The flashing light indicates either a charger problem or batteries that are beyond charging. If you have a voltmeter you can check the output of the charger and the voltage of the batteries, but chances are that you just need to replace the batteries -- especially if they're more than a year old.

Battery won't take (or hold?) charge

More than likely it is the battery. If it is not the battery, it is the charger. Defects are common.

If it is under warranty, exercise it. If not, just purchase a new battery and charger just to be safe.

Pentex Optio W30 turns on but black screen for 5 secs & turns off

Try a new battery first, much less costly.

A fairly common problem with "underwater" cameras is that the sealing surfaces that are supposed to keep the water out fail to some degree due mostly to lack of cleanliness when the camera is closed up. It takes VERY LITTLE salt water inside a delicate electronic device to wreak all sorts of havoc.

Look carefully inside the camera for any sign of salt deposits or corrosion. If you see that, the camera is likely toast or at least in need of a repair job that likely will cost more than a newer camera.

Good luck!

Pentax Camera problem

The camera has probably an internal damage due to the shock.

Try removing batteries for two minutes, this will reset it, try heping lens in and out if they are stuck.
If this simple procedures cannot fix it, the camera must be taken apart, tested and reassembled. this is a job that is better done by a technician.

If the camera does not restart, and you need service, you can call the service number listed on the user manual, or check contact page on Pentax website.

Had same problem, it has taken me ages!
If you have the book, see page 83:
1)Playback mode: 4 way controller up X2
2)L or R to choose number prints
3) Down, then L or R to select date on or off
4 Press ok

Or for single print, similar see page 85

Dark LCD screen

I have a sony cybershot DSC-S650, the LCD was very dark and could not see anything except if I pointed it at a bright object, everything else worked ok. I could take pictures but could barely see them in playback as well.

I took it to Sony authorised repair outlet and was told the CCD was damaged, they charged me USD $55 to repair it (in Quito, Ecuador)

Pentax Optio W30 Won't "Open" correctly

Does the camera switch on at all? Can you proceed with other normal operations? Is there in the manual a reset option?
