    Same Problem

  • Anonymous Dec 29, 2007

Playing mario 8 - unable to find out how to have the second wii remote to connect and operate for 2 player. Other mario games (e.g. mario olypmics) do not have this problem.

Not sure what steps to take as there is lack of options on the actual game to figure this out. Gone into Minigames / Extra Zones and Party Tent and when it asks you to select players - second one down which is Player 1, Player 2 and Com 1 / Com 2 - will not allow as it says 'Please connect second wii remote'

If there is a solution to this it would be great. Thanks for your help.

I have tried to disconnect and then reconnect and still have the same problems. The only games I can get the second remote to stay connected with is game system came with. I disconnect and then reconnect all remotes and once games load up the 2nd remote is gone. Disconnecting and reconnecting doesn't work!

  • Rhonda Samuels Mar 05, 2008

I have the same problem with all games except the one that came with the wii console. I have tried to disconnect and reconnect and when the game loads up 2nd remote is gone. I have tried changing batteries and still doesn't work. Tried the reset buttons and still doesn't work. I have a 2nd remote that is useless to me unless I play the game that came with my system. What is the point in having multiplayer games if you can only play with 1 remote.

We had this same problem so I did a google search for 2nd wii remote not connecting or staying connected and this is what we came up with and did this and it really works! So hopefully this will help all of you to. Good luck! K and M

This is from www.nintendo.com/wii :

Wii Remote not being recognized by the Wii Console (lights on the Wii Remote flash when you press a button, but then go out) - Most Common:
Getting the Wii console to recognize (or "sync" with) a Wii Remote, especially one that did not come in the box with your Wii console, may require doing a few additional steps before it can be synced. Additionally, a Wii Remote that was working, but is no longer being recognized (or has "lost its sync") may need to be re-synced. Please use the troubleshooting steps listed below, which our experience has shown can solve many Wii Remote issues.
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/ts/wiiremote.jsp

    Try these steps!
  1. Turn the Wii console power OFF by pressing the POWER Button on the front of the console. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet for a few seconds. After a few seconds have elapsed, plug the cord back into the wall outlet.

  2. Turn the power of the Wii console ON. When you see the Health and Safety screen, open the small flap on the front of the Wii console to find a red button labeled "SYNC." Press and hold the SYNC Button down for 15 seconds. This will clear all the syncs on the Wii, allowing you to get a clean start to begin the process described below.

  3. After holding the SYNC Button on the Wii console down for at least 15 seconds, you can now "re-sync" your Wii Remotes:
    1. With the first Wii Remote you wish to sync, remove the battery cover on the back of the Wii Remote to find a small red button just below the batteries.

    2. Press and release the small red button just below the batteries on the Wii Remote; the blue lights on the front of the Wii Remote will blink.

    3. Quickly press and release the red SYNC button on the inside of the white flap on the front of the Wii console (picture below).

    4. When the Player LED blinking stops and stays lit, the syncing is complete. The LED that is illuminated indicates the player number (1 through 4).

    5. This sync procedure (steps "a" through "d" above) must be followed for each additional Wii Remote added to the system.

What i suggest is to press the home button on the working controller. in the menu there is the wii remote settings click on that menu. there should then be a button that says reconnect press that button. the screen should say disconnecting. after that press the 1 and 2 buttons on all desired controllers in the order of players. that should fix the problem if im not mistaken. :)

Open the back of your wii remote and you'll see a red round sync button... open the front of your Wii and you will see a red rectabgular sync button. point the wii remote at the wii station and press both buttons and hold for 10 seconds, this will then link up both and you will be up and running

I have 2 controllers A and B. I set up A for channel 1 and B for channel 2. After about 10 seconds controller B's channel 2 LED goes out, comes on again for about 1 second and then goes out for ever. If I swap controllers so that A is channel 2 and B is channel 1 the identical fault occurs.

I have tried everything suggested on the nintendo.com troublehooting web page but still have the same problem. I have also tried the Reconnect facility on the console, but cannot get either controller to re-sync. During this operation do I point the 2 controllers at the console or towards the motion sensor bar?

Any ideas please on how to stop the controller set to channel 2 losing its sync?

I just tried it because I was having the same problem. What I did was hit the home button on the first remote, and disconnect the remote from the concole. It should then tell you to reconnect in order, connect the first and while the reconnect screen is up, connect the second one, and both hands should show up on the screen to play. Hope that helps!

Using the home button to reconnect works, but only as a temporary solution. flippo_K 's solution works permanently and you won't have to reconnect every time you cut the Wii on.

Brynptterson Is Right! I did this with my console and it worked perfectly. You must press on the home button then wii remote settings then reconnect. On the reconnect menu you must press the 1 and 2 button on all controllers you wish to add SIMULTANEOUSLY otherwise it will only add in one remote. This worked with my console and is a good solution to the problem.

Assure there is no nunchuck connected
Mario Kart Wii has its own Controller booter so;
Go into multiplayer (2, 3 or 4)
Then move to the right and select add Wii remote
Do as the instruction says

I found it odd too that the home overlay cant activate the controller on Mario Kart but that is how you do it.

Hope this helped ;)

Setting up 2nd wii remote

Greetings mlsaenz7,

You need to resynch the second remote to the Wii console. To accomplish this you need to hit the sync button under the battery cover on the remote, and then when the lights are flashing on the remote, you hit the sync button on the Wii. The synch button is located under the small cover to the left of the cd/dvd slot.
Thank you,
