The dryer sounds like a jack-hammer when it is running. I've checked the motor, and it spins freely, the blower fan moves easily, there don't appear to be any loose screws. When the motor is running (with the drum removed), it seems to oscillate rapidly in its bearings, and if I push the motor towards the blower while it's running, the vibration dampens out. My first question is whether the oscillation of the motor is normal. If not, then what would be causing it? If so, then should I assume the motor bearings are worn and replace them? The dryer is less than 10 years old.
Have you checked the rollers. one could be missing a piece and causing the banging

There is a belt like a fan belt that goes around the outer tub and onto a pulley that turns the tub, it may have slipped off, you should be able to take the top off of the dryer to check it.

A warped drum is possible, but not likely. Check the bearing at the rear of the drum to see if it is breaking loose from the drum. If still under warranty, take advantage. If not, and the bearing IS breaking loose, the mount can probably be welded. If the drum interior is enameled finish, the damage can be repaired with epoxy. If the drum is stainless steel, the weld area can be re-polished to original. Hope this helps!

yes, it's called a blower wheel... it is what blows the air into the dryer to blow out the humidity through the vent... it has a D fitting and as you use it, the D rounds out and the 'squirrel cage' stops spinning and begins to slip... if you continue to use the dryer without replacing this, you could burn up your dryer motor... it will just over heat....
