How do you get back into your computer when your password contains the @ sign and your keyboard @ sign is not working. The @ sign is part of my password and I cannot get into my computer. Any advice?

Hook up another keyboard to the computer. Even if it is a laptop it should have a USB connection for a keyboard. If the number 2 shows up when you press it then check the shift key, It would be a good idea to clean out under all the keys with a can of compressed air.

I HAVE A NEW ACER 5517 AND CAN'T GET THE @ KEY TO WORK???

First, does the #2 key work? I assume thats the same key as your at button.
If it does, if you hold the shift key and press 3, do you get the pound sign?

if the 2 key does not work, then the problem is with your #2 button. if the # key does not work, then the problem is with your shift key.

Try the right shift key, blow air into those keys, if it still does not work, you will need to replace the keyboard.

it will be covered under warranty.

Want to do backward slash; the key only performs # and no slash. also want @ to appear when I use the key showing that sign (currently use the " sign to get it)

The back Slash would be above the ENTER key and the @ sign can be accessed by holding SHIFT and pressing number "2"

In case you are not able to get the desired keys normally. It is possible that there may be something stuck between the keys. I would suggest you to kindly remove the keys and clean the base.

The@sign

I had the same problem. When I pressed shift and that comma key I got a " instead of a @.

I looked to see what on the leyboard you normally press to get a " and that's the number 2 key.

Tried pressing shift and the 2 key and hey presto, I got a @.

So it looks like @ and " have swapped places.

So shift and 2 for a @!
