Mark587, Did you shine a very bright flashlight 1" from the screen to try and see the WIN-desktop ?? Even though the screen appears BLACK. Your words above said: JUST CAN'T SEE IT Did you really NOT see anything? Have you seen any of the longer video clips of "LCD Monitor Disassembly" on YOUTUBE? Some BLACK screen "symptom" lcd displays can be repaired for less than $10 in parts. Capacitors! Also check videos on lcd repair. Then get back here to fixya and I or any of the guys can help you decide what to do with your display whoose screen is now dark and lifeless. After doing the YOUTUBE thing you may even tell us what you will do!!! Hope this was helpful. Yes we do want to hear back from you. please rate this response on fixya. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @ aol.com. Bye for now.

If the monitor has power and you are able to see a very faint picture then 1 of 2 items needs to be replaced. 1 The inverter board needs to be replaced *most likely cause* 2. back light lamps have burnt out

Can bad T-Con board cause Samsung TV to flicker off and on?

I think an LED problem is more likely. The LED strips are usually powered by a driver circuit on the power supply board. You can check this with a bright flashlight shining on the front of the display at about a 20° angle from parallel to the display. If you can see the picture or the menu with the flashlight beam during the "dark" period, the problem is NOT likely to be the T-Con board.

You can also look at the back of the set with the cover removed - most sets have a number of vent holes in the back plate through which the backlight can be seen when it is on. If these holes go dark when the TV goes black, the backlight is being turned off.

When the screen is lit, take a picture quickly and look for dark spots. Maybe one of the LEDs has a partial short that shuts down the LED power and triggers a retry cycle. If so, after a while it will burn out and then the entire LED strip will be inoperative.

On my Dell E193fpc monitor, the background lighting goes off after a few seconds. The actual Screen-image is still there (can be seen in bright sunlight). How can I get the backlighting to work proper

This sounds as though there might be a problem with the inverter (this is a component that supplies a high voltage for a tube(s) that illuminate the screen.

As there are high voltages on inverters, this is really a job for a repair shop.

Dell ADAMO 13 w/Vista 64 Random power failure...goes dead in 1 second. Battery fully charged. Happened with external power and when on battery. I have latest BIOS v6.0. I ran pre-boot diagnostics...

If the power totally fails (i.e. power is cut off, LEDs turn off, fans stop, ... etc), then this more likely to be because of a short circuit developing in a failing semiconductor component, or a power supply problem.
However, if the laptop is still running & only the display on its LCD is cut off but the laptop itself stays powered on, then your laptop might be experiencing a failing screen inverter board, a failing screen backlight lamp, or a failing LCD screen cable.

TYPICAL INVERTER FAILURE SYMPTOMS

1. When you turn on the laptop, the screen lights up for a short period of time and then goes dark. You still can see an image but it is very dark, almost invisible and definitely not usable. When you restart the laptop, the screen lights up and then goes dark again. The laptop works fine with an external monitor.
2. Your laptop turns on but the screen remains dark all the time. You still can see a very dim image outline. The laptop works fine with an external monitor.
3. The laptop screen works fine for hours or even days, but sometimes it goes very dark as it mentioned above. When you restart the laptop, the screen works fine again.

Inverter failure symptoms are very similar to backlight lamp failure symptoms and in most cases you cannot tell which one is causing the problem until you replace either the inverter board or the backlight lamp. From my personal experience, inverter boards fail more often than backlight lamps. If you have to guess, replace the inverter first.

Used as second monitor suddenly stared to go dark

If the screen is lighting up for a fraction of a second when you turn on & then goes dark, this indicates a fault either with the backlights on the screen or the inverter part of the monitor. You can check the backlights if you have access to a backlight tester, you need to remove the rear cover & connect the backlight cables into the tester, if this checks ok then look for a problem on the inverter board, checking the capacitors for any signs of distress.

Screen goes black after 30 seconds

Yes, this is a backlight problem. However, it could be either the light itself or the inverter that powers the backlight when it fails like this. I'd recommend replacing the entire screen plus housing and hinges (it is often sold as a complete unit) or just replace the inverter (often relatively cheap) and then if that doesn't fix it replace the screen (the backlight is non-replaceably attached to the screen).

The other option is to simply attach it to an external monitor and use it like that. This is also a free way (well, as long as you know someone that has a monitor) to make absolutely sure that the problem is the screen and not anything else.

HP Pavilion, Screen working, but extremely dark!

Hi,
As per your description, I find that the issue is with the LCD Backlight which is also called as LCD Inverter which lights up the LCD to show us the Display on the LCD Display.
If this Backlight is gone bad, you will be barely able to see the Display on the LCD.
Coming to the Noise you had mentioned above can be from the Cooling fans of the Notebook which will be spinning at high speed when the Notebook starts and will reduce gradually after few minutes.
I recommend you to try cleaning the Cooling fan vents using any Vacuum Cleaner or Air Blower.
I recommend you to contact any nearest HP Authorized Service Center and get the LCD Backlight replaced.
Hope this helps....

The Screen is Dark and Cannot be Bright by the Brightness Keys. It Flickers when it first comes on but goes Dark. Can see it if you shine a Flashlight on the Screen. Also the Lid Switch if you Press that...

Assuming all of the connections are secure this is most likely due to a failing LCD inverter which is basically the backlight of the screen. If it's less than a year old cash in on the manufacturer's warranty. If it's not you might as well buy a new one. Hope this helps.
