It sound as though I have the same problem with my HPR5072. I have red flickering spots on the bottom half of the screen. I have tried to set the brightness to around 70 and it helps but this make the picture too bright.It sound as though I have the same problem with my HPR5072. Call samsung...had the same problem with my HP-R5072...and they cant seem to fix it !!!! ... If your lucky you should get a replacement TV within 2 to 4 weeks ... :(

Set the screen format using your TV's menu. Do not set the format of the screen using your provider's receiver. I had this prob with a few channels with a dish provider when I set the format with the remote from the dish provider. I picked up the TV's remote, went into the menu, set the format, problem fixed.
please re solder first all parts specially in hot area, and observe if problem still occur, then next is replace filter capacitor. observe also too hot parts and check for change value resistor.
I would suggest either the Focus block or the RED CRT drive board either one of those items could cause the symptom. A defective CRT could also, but a shorted CRT doesnt usually go back to being normal
it is your av cable however the components in the cable get a small static boost when u are using your controller so it becomes an intermittent fault ie;....when in game vidios or watching dvds, u rarely use the controller so u dont see the flickering and u only see it when in game play because u are in constant contact with the controlls and the components inside the av cable recieve a small static boost causing the interference.
Sounds like the driver board for the backlight is going bad...is there a spot on the screen part of the case ( usually at the bottom) that feels much warmer than the rest?
