Question about Tomtom ONE GPS Receiver

1 Answer

TomTom has difficulties locating satellites.

Dears,
Every time I start my TomTom it had trouble finding a satellite connection. The first couple of times I hit the reset button at the bottom of the device. Upon reset/start the device could find up to 7 satellites. Today even the reset button doesn’t work. It is a bright day outside and I cannot understand why TomTom has so much trouble locating the satellites.

I wonder if I am doing something wrong regarding startup-shutoff. This problem happens every time I shut down the device. If I keep it on after resetting, it stays hooked to the satellite. Every time the device is shut/restarted it gets lost.

Shouldn't the device be shut down once I done with it. Is there some type of sleep / semi-shut mode?

Kindly help…Mahesh

Download the latest software tomtom home and do a gpsquickfix. THis will solve the problem and tell the unit where the satellites are for the next 7 days. May need to do gpsquickfix often.

Unable to turn it on ,only lighted screen and connection ca be seen

First of all, make sure the battery is fully charged. If you're not sure your car charger is working, try charging it with a USB-cable on your PC/Mac.

Once the battery is charged, RESET your TomTom.
Old TomTom's have a RESET button on the bottom. One model has it's reset button hidden under a cover.

Newer devices don't have a reset button. You reset them by "KEEP PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON A LONG TIME"

Try pressing even more then a minute. Eventually you should hear the TomTom "Drumm Roll" (the starup sound), and your GPS would start normally.

If this doesn't work, Try updating the device firmware using a USB-cable and the right software depending your device. Older devices use TomTom HOME, never ones use TomTom MyDrive.

I wish you a lot of succes!

Tomtom wont turn on after chaging it

Reset your TomTom GPS receiver. Some TomTom users report occasional difficulty in getting their TomTom navigation device to start or respond to commands. If this happens to you, remedy the problem by performing a soft reset on your TomTom GPS. A soft reset will reset the data on your TomTom GPS receiver without erasing any data. To reset a TomTom GPS receiver, press and hold the "On/Off" button for 15 seconds or until the device restarts.
2

Let your TomTom GPS acquire the necessary satellite signals outside. If the device has trouble connecting to the satellite signals necessary for its operation, try an easy fix to the problem. Take your TomTom GPS receiver outside, away from mountains, tall buildings or heavy foliage, where the receiver has a clear view of the sky. Wait for a few moments while the device acquires the necessary satellite signals.

Hello, We recently purchased a Tom Tom 140s, used it two times and it went out on the second time we used it. We cannot get it to start again. Any suggestions?

Try a soft reset first - hold the on button down for 20-25 seconds to do this. Most of the time this will fix starting issues.

If the tomtom still won't start you need to connect to your computer via usb cable and start tomtom home (downloadable from the tomtom website) - an auto update should fix it if the tomtom is recognised.

If tomtom home cannot recognise it (shows no device connected) contact tomtom customer support who will send you a software reset - then eventually you wil be back up and running!

No gps signal with tomtom

Solution for No GPS Signal

To pinpoint your location, you need to get signals from at least 4 satellites. If you receive signals from less than 4 satellites or the signals are not strong enough, the Driving View stays gray and one of the following messages is shown in the bottom right corner of the Driving View:
  • Waiting for a valid GPS signal
  • The GPS signal was lost sec ago
Note: In previous versions of the TomTom application the message may vary.
If you see any of these messages, try the following:

Finding a GPS signal
In the following cases it can take up to 5 minutes to find your current position:
  • You use your TomTom device for the first time.
  • You haven't used your TomTom device for a longer time.
  • Your TomTom device has been relocated without using it (e.g. after traveling by plane or train).
If it takes longer than 5 minutes, make sure that you are in an open place without tall buildings or trees around you.
Once your TomTom device has located your current position, the Driving View is shown in full color and shows your position on the map.
Tip: Most TomTom devices can use QuickGPSfix™ to locate your current position faster.

Flight mode
On devices with built-in GPRS connectivity, flight mode also disables your device’s GPS reception.
To switch flight mode off, tap Flight mode in the preferences menu and then select Restore connections.

Clear View
Your TomTom device must be outdoors to locate your current position.
Try repositioning your device in your car; ideally, try to position it at the lowest possible point directly on the windscreen.
Some vehicles have a heat reflective shield embedded in the windscreen, which may prevent your device from locating your current position. If this is the case in your vehicle, use the TomTom External Antenna Kit (available as an accessory).
Tip: As a reference, place your device outside your parked car to see if it can find your current position.

TomTom One GPS fault

I had the same problem after downloading the latest maps, the unit was slow to boot up and would not find any satelites. I had no response from e-mails to Tom tom tech support and I was going to give up and buy a new device if this fix failed. I had tried paper clip resets and resetting to factory settings but they had not worked.

After reading the previous answer to this link I searched Tom tom support for 'clear flash' and the search results were more useful than the FAQ on the normal support pages.

I used Tom tom home to uninstall the current software application and then reinstalled the latest version (I had to go through several updates as my version of the software was from when I purchased the unit in 2007), I then downloaded and ran Clear flash and made sure that I disconnected the tom tom from my PC using the correct procedure (using the eject button in the bottom of the tom tom home screen as I read that this could have contributed to the problem in the first place).

After another reset the device came to life and after a few minutes searching for satelites outside the device worked as it should (try checking the configure GPS option if it is taking a while to find a signal, it could be just me but it seems to speed up the search process).

Hope this helps.

Doesn' t turn on

1. Connect the TomTom to the USB for power (green light should be on).
2. Hit the reset button on the bottom of the device - you should feel it depress slightly.
3. Press firmly and hold the power button and count to 10.
5. Try this a couple of times if it doesn't work the first time.

Even if your battery is ****, the power connection has a pass-through, so you can still use the device as long as its connected to the charger.

TomTom One GPS fault

I would send it back to tomtom again and tell them it is definatly not finding satellites. Hopefully they will find the fault this time. if you prefer not to send it to tomtom but have it checked somewhere else , then maybe you can search online with google as I know there are at least 3 places to have it looked at but I won't mention them here as its not a forum for advertising. There are several reasons why its not picking up sats but there are 3 most likely causes. A/ Contact with top antenna board has become broken / unplugged ~ tomtom one and one V2. - B/ Ribbon cable has become unplugged ~ tomtom Go - C/ software faulty or faulty sd card . ......... Most likely cause is faulty file on SD card .

SD card no loger recognised...

It is a common problem after an update.

I personally had to contact tomtom & they talked me through formating the SD card & starting again.

****************************************************

Reset the unit by pushing a bent paperclip or pin into the hole on the bottom marked 'reset' turn it back on, plug it in & charge it via USB overnight or as long as you can in the car, make sure the led on the top is green, tap the bottom right of the screen & check the battery symbol on the unit says charging underneath.

If this doesn't help.
contact them about the problem...
