This is a software error message. This model of scanner actually holds a file set ..not just one file. it is likely you are using a program to download your inventory list or similar, and the files have been lost (usually by leaving hte battery out too long).
A SKU is another name for an item number.
It is quite unlikely this is a problem with the hardware itself.
I think I ve dialed in to your thought process here.
The term barcode scanner is actually very broad. The device you have is an old LRT ... which stands for laser radio terminal.
Its got a barcode scanner in it alright ... but its actually more analogous to an Ipaq. It is a true computer on a stick. It has an operating system (DOS) a file system, and a wireless network radio. You can write programs for it to make it many tasks, and many companies did write software for sale for it. Its quite a complicated device really.
The other term 'barcode scanner' is for a simple handheld scanner which usually replaces typing on a keyboard. It is a simple device and is analogous to a typist.
Symbol had a demo software that could be loaded onto the scanner, and then the scanner would display each barcode scanned. The problem is that the scanner is old. Probably cheper to buy a new scanner with display (Like an LS370) and firmware to do that exact task.
Basically it can be done relatively easily but the money doesn't make sense given what else already exists to do the job.

Thanks for the reply.
I acquired the scanner without software.
What software would I need and where would you suggest that acquire it?
With thanks
