Fabric softener is basically wax in a liquid transport with some perfume thrown in. Wax build-up is common in the softener dispenser and when the machine floods the dispenser with water to dilute it and cause it to flow into the tub, it will overflow if it is clogged up.

Try finding the clog and cleaning it out. You can also poor very hot water into the dispense and that can melt the wax and break up the clog. Make sure you pour the hot water where the fabric softener flows from the dispense to the tub. This is different in different machines.
Most machines do not have a valve that the softener flows through, but if yours does, then that could be failing and not opening (this is unlikely, check for clogs!)
Good Luck!

SOURCE: fabric softener dispenser won't drain the fabric softener.

Not sure if you already did this, but try pulling the face plates off inside the dispencer and take it to the sink and run very hot water into the "stand pipe" that projects off the back of the face plate to make sure they are clear and no old crusty products are in the hole.. Then put them back in and push down hard and make sure they are fully seated.
If the plates are loose and not seated or clogged, there will be little or no siphon effect to draw the fluids out of the dispenser. At least thats how it seems to work
Also, if you pull the top off the washer, there is an adjustment on top of the dispenser to adjust the dispensing ratios I believe.
I just did that procedure the other day on my machine and the wife said it works good now.
Let me know it it works for you, I was wondering if it was just a coincidence.

SOURCE: Fabric Softener Won't Dispense

The fabric softener dispenser is notorious for clogging. Liquid fabric softener is essentially a liquid form of wax. After a period of time it begins to gunk up the inside of the fabric softener dispenser. If you remove the dispenser drawer and look into the cavity, there should be a series of holes in the upper part of the compartment where water sprays into all the dispenser trays. These holes get gunked up and clogged and water will not dispense properly. As a result, the washer goes through a complete cycle, but the dispenser stays full. If this is the case, you can take some cotton swabs and/or toothpicks and clean these holes real good. It may be a bit meticulous, but it should take care of the problem. Post back and let me know if this helps.

SOURCE: fabric softener dispenser no longer works on my Bosch

Remove soap drawer completely from washer, and thoroughly clean all parts of it, paticularly the conditioner compartment..
Get a piece of stiff wire, and make a right angled bend in the end of it, then poke the wire into all the holes in the top of the soap drawer compartment to clear any possible blockage.
This should solve the prob.
Please rate my solution.
Thankyou.

SOURCE: Maytag MAH8700AWW will not dispense fabric softener

I had the same problem, all the water dispensing worked except for the fabric softner one. It was the wax motor. I tested it first by switching the wax motor for the bleach dispenser to the fabric softner dispenser and turned the machine on to the point where the fabric softner would be added. I hope this helps someone, to save them money and the hassle of dealing with repair men. I have had my neptune front loader for 10 years and this is the thrid repair needed luckly it was an in expensive one the first 2 were major! So much for maytag being sooo good!

Frigidaire washing machine fabric softner will not dispense out

Hello - There are several things that could cause the fabric softener to not dispense into the washer. Are you sure the liquid in the dispenser after the wash is fabric softener? If it is fabric softener, the solenoid that lets the water into the dispenser is not working. This solenoid is located on the back of the dispenser. It only gets voltage during the dispense time and fills the fabric softener dispenser with water. The fabric softener dispenser fills while the washer is filling for the rinse cycle.

When the washer begins to fill for the rinse cycle, the fabric softener solenoid is energized and water flows into the fabric softener dispenser cup. When the cup is full the water siphons out and softener and water flow into the tub.

If the liquid in the fabric softener dispenser is pure softener you may need a technician to diagnose and repair the problem. The voltage will have to be tested to the softener solenoid and a volt meter is required.

If the liquid in the fabric softener dispenser is water you probably need to clean the dispenser cup. **** will build up in the siphon tube and stop the liquid from going into the washer tub. The incoming water will dilute the softener and overflow the dispenser cup and run into the tub. The instructions for cleaning the dispenser should be located on page 43 of the use and care guide that came with the washer.

If you don't have the use and care guide these instructions will help. Open the dispenser until it stops. In the left rear corner of the dispenser, there is a release that is labeled push. Press down on the push area and you can slide the dispenser drawer out.

Remove the insert from the bleach and fabric softener compartments. Clean the bottom of the insert and the bleach and fabric softener compartments. Reinstall the insert and put the drawer back inside the washer.

To test the siphon action slowly pour water into the fabric softener compartment. When the water level goes above the maximum line stop pouring. The water should all drain out.

Hope this information proves to be helpful however if it is ineffective please contact a professional to move forward accurately.

Fabric softener dispenser fills up with clear water after washing cycle is complete. I do not use fabric softener .

Purchase some fabric softener and place it in its normal location at the beginning of the cycle. At the end of the cycle check to see if fabric softener has been dispensed and whether there is water in the cup.

If the fabric softener is gone, but there is water in the fabric softener cup, then your problem may be with the water valve assembly. The water valve assembly (as one complete unit) has a separate solenoid for hot and cold water temperatures, bleach and fabric softener. The fabric softener solenoid on the water valve assembly could be defective (allowing water to fill the fabric softener cup).

Fridgidaire front load will not empty fabric

Hello, W/D here.

There are a couple of reasons why the fabric softener will not dispense. If everything else dispenses properly (detergent and bleach), then I would suspect a bit of plugging. If the softener remains in the dispenser, the water valve above the tray may be sticking. You'll have to get the top up to check it. If there is water in the tray, or some water/softener, then you'll need to look at the overflow cap. Here's how that works: Your dispensing trays for bleach and softener have a raised tube built into them, and each is covered with a loose fitting cap. When water is let into the tray, the level rises under the cap until it overflows, creating a syphon. The softener is literally pulled from the tray, and chased by the water. When the water stops, the tray level continues to drop, until air gets into the cap, breaking the syphon. The cap can be removed and cleaned. Sometimes the tray has to be removed first. Theres a catch towards the rear of the tray.
Best regards, W/D

My Whirlpool calypso top loading washer poured water from underneath, water everywhere, what do I do and how do I do it?? No codes showed up. Thanks for any info. Rose

Sounds like the seals & gaskets have failed. If you removed the wash plate trying to unjam the washer and did not also replace the gasket kit, you may have violated the integrity of the water tight seals. However, sometimes also the fabric softener dispenser especially, gets clogged and may overflow and leak if the tubes are clogged with coagulated fabric softener. As I am writing this, my washer's fabric softener dispenser is clogged and the method I use to clear it has not worked this time - a cup of boiling water to melt the congealed fabric softener. One has to open the top lid (method varies by Calypso model - Whirlpool or Kenmore) to get to the dispenser tubing and reservoir underneath to get things flowing again, and in fact I have a small water leak on the floor where the dispenser overflowed a bit. That you have a leak, if it happens to come from such a clog, at least gives you a sign that your dispenser solenoids are not malfunctioning, requiring replacement of one of the circuit boards.

Fabric Softener dispenser

thats quite normal, espessially if you do not use the fabric softener, the compartment empties through an overflow siphon action, so if there eis nothing in the compartment the area is flooded but cannot cause siphon action, not an issue at all

Fabric softener is mostly a liquid wax. It is common for dispensers to have problems if the you use liquid fabric softener a lot. The softener becomes a sticky solid and can gunk up everything over time. I believe the type of dispenser on your washer simply flushes water into the reservoir at a prescribed time and then dispenses into the wash tub. If this reservoir becomes clogged somewhere it may actually be filling up and overflowing into another reservoir in the dispenser and getting dispensed that way. I would try cleaning the dispenser thoroughly, first. Since it IS dispensing (but at the wring time) I don't think you have a control problem. Try cleaning and let me know if this helps. PS Sorry to ignore your request for online assistance. I was already in the middle of typing a solution for you. I hope this was the help you needed.
