LCD display shows up so light that if there is any light where I take a picture I can't see it in screen, and I have to look through the view finder. What to do?

There is a CCD service advisory for the F717. They will repair it free of charge. Go here for more details: http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager, and is a known defect for your particular model camera.. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free if you live in the US, Canada, and a select few other countries. If you live outside the US, contact Canon support for your country to see if they'll still honor the advisory (some still will, especially if you stress you knowledge that this is a known defect of the camera). They may also include free shipping both ways (free shipping varies with countries). This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please see this link for more info.
Affected cameras with this problem include:
A60, A70, A75, A80, A85, A95, A300, A310, S1 IS, S60, S230, S400, S410, S500, SD100, SD110, IXUS V2/V3/300/400/430/500/II/IIs, IXY Digital 200a/300a/320/400/450/500/30/30a
SOURCE: turn on camera..view finder and/or display screen
The s7000 has three different display modes: Screen, viewfinder, and off. Screen is for looking at the big screen, viewfinder is for looking through the digital viewfinder, and off should turn off all the displays. Try pressing the DISP button once. That should reactivate the screen and make it possible to use the camera again.
SOURCE: When I turn on my Canon PC 1130 to take a picture,
Set the camera in TV mode, (delayed shutter mode) set the shutter at 15 sec, click to take a picture and during that 15 secs (like, after 7 seconds) open the battery compartment which cuts contact with the battery circuit. Close the battery cover. At this point the camera works fine ... but only temporarily.... Here is the key to the permanent fix. While the camera is working via the temporary fix, take many, many pictures. Hundreds! I probably snapped 400-600 pics. The idea is to wear down the little patches of hardened oil on the shutter blades. For the next three days I took hundreds of pics each day. Basically, I just aimed the camera at the wall or whatever and snapped off several hundred pics.
