I Have a Neptune HE TL fav6800aww and it keeps giving me the DC error code which i understand is a balance code but i emptied the washer and ran it and still get the code?

  • christoph524 Oct 15, 2009

Ive tried the tub displacement test and it fails that test so i am assuming the sensor needs to be replaced. I also noticed that the front left shock seems to be grinding when going up/down. Looks like powder soap somehow has gotten down into it. I was able to spin the tub with one finger and felt no drag.

    Please advise

Hris,

The FAV9800AW the dc/UC errors are caused by a clutch malfunction.

Your machine is shutting down with those errors so your Tub Displacement Sensor is working as designed.

Fix the Clutch malfunction and you can wash a single sock or a load of blue jeans and you will not take the dc or UC unbalance errors. See this post for the fix.

It is a tight work area but if you are handy you can get away with a re-lube of the One-Way rollre clutches in the clutch pully you could be working today. If you need to replace tthe clutch I recommend a $60 clutch. Call in a repair service and you are looking at around $300. I will help you thru the process.

Sorry I should have looked a bit closer at your post. Try the Tub Displacement Test and see what your results are. I will summarize but the check is in the SM page 27.

    Tub Displacement Sensor Diagnostics check.
It is possible the Tub Displacement Sensor may have failed try this check which is in the Troubleshooting guide stored in your washer console or refer to the SM.

    a. Enter the Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”

    b. Press the Super Wash key display reads “in”…something like that.

    c. Press Delicates the Display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

    d. Push tub to the back right corner of the machine the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

    e. Press Hand Wash.

    f. Pull tub to the front left corner while pushing the tub down the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

    What are your results?

I'm not having a good day, page 27 is the TDS check for the FAV9800AW, page 19 is the TDS chceck for the FAV6800AW flavor of the machine, my machine type also. I can do the test wih lid access. If you have a problem lift the washer top from the washer base by the process on page 33. Don't worry about the marks they refference on the TDS sensor we are trying go/no go testing.

If you fail this test It would be time to remove the machine front cover check if the TDS sensor mounting from the Tub to the washer frame.

    It should be mounted like this;

    Chris,

“”also noticed that the front left shock seems to be grinding when going up/down. Looks like powder soap somehow has gotten down into it.”” Did you pull the front cover off to view the left front strut and TDS? If you haven’t pulled the front cover off I would do so to inspect the TDS mounting to the tub and washer front. Do you think some powder soap may have gotten into the sensor? See page 41 of the Service Manual for front cover removal and removing the TDS.

If you feel the left strut is failing they can be replaced I believe they are sold in pairs only. If the tub is not sagging under load and it springs back when press down on the tub I would not replace it, see this link Sears Parts Direct for parts look up.

    Back to the TDS;

With the front cover removed I unsnapped the bottom of the sensor and left it hanging. See page 42 of the SM to remove the TDS. I then enter into the TDS diag check. First pic is TDS extended to #1 timing mark shown on page 19 Console Pic shows UO “Unbalance Open”.

Next move the TDS to midpoint Console Pic shows UC “Unbalance Closed”.

Next move the TDS to #2 timing mark shown on page 19 Console Pic shows “UO “ Unbalance Open”.

If you are not getting those TDS Console transitions I would remove 120VAC power to the machine then remove the TDS sensor from its Tub Mounting and reseat the 3 wire plug, I would reseat the TDS sensor plug few times to make sure corrosion is not causing loss of sensor input to the Control Board. That three pin plug snaps into the TDS you need to release the plug from the sensor with a narrow flat blade screw driver pushing the tab and rotating the screw driver blade to release the plug from the sensor.

Sorry for the blurry pic it's difficult to take this pic without a helper.

I put a small amount Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on the connector socket. Reinstall the TDS repower the machine back up and try the TDS check again. If it fails the only other test is to measure the TDS 3.0VDC transitions up to the Control Board. That is a bit more difficult to explain but if you have the skill sets and a DVM that would be my next check, let us know the results of this round of TDS and TDS connector check.

I would want to make absolutely sure the TDS has failed before I would replace it for $60. If you are not sure it may be worthwhile to call in a repair service. If you feel comfortable as a DIY’er and you feel the TDS has failed go for it.

From page 21 of the SM

Check Tub Displacement Sensor for 0 to 3.0 Volts

DC output voltage between ground and the board

input. Check for 12 Volts DC input voltage between

the ground and the board output. Only check for

voltage at the Tub Displacement Sensor. Do not

perform a continuity check. See Tub Displacement

    Diagnostics

Are you sure the error code is DR? Could it be DC an unbalance error code. Google ""16022808.pdf"" to find. Is the washer banging around in Spin Cycle? If so this is a Clutch Pulley issue.

DR is not a listed error code in the FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual.

That's a No Fill error code. Is there any water flowing into your machine?

May be a block in the in the Water Inlet Valve. If it was false I feel you would have to break out the mop for flood/over fill condition. Did you try to fill with a mix like Warm/Warm selction?

If you want to troubleshoot further go to a real DIY forum.
