My phillips 42 inch plasma tv is 2 years old and just clicks when I turn it on.It would click for about 30 minutes and then come on, but yesterday it did not come on at all. I read on line that this is a problem with the lamp or ballast. The lamp could cost $110 to $175. What should I expect to pay a technician? If it's more than the lamp what else could it be? What is the ballast?

Are the solid horizontal black lines or colored lines. If colored lines there is a posibility that your Y-main, and upper and lower Y-buffers are bad. If black you have a bad plasma panel.

I had the same problem and fixed with a great online tutorial. Just replace 3 capacitors available at Radioshack onthe the board. 2662, 2663, 2664 1 is a 1000uf the others are 100uf. Max Volts need to be over 25. It worked great, check http://dynamicorange.com/2008/06/25/fixing-a-plasma-tv/
for more detail.

blinking link means there is a problem with the software -- usually this is caused when a fuse goes bad or the power supply board needs to be replaced due to a problem --- most repair places replace the whole board - nobody fixed one broken part
