There was a power surge this a.m. where the elect shut down for a second and came back on. the only thing i had on the set was a blinking red light. i conculted the user manual where it said if an improper shutdown happens, it will take some time for the tv to power up. that was 730 this morning, it is now 315 pm. did i possibly blow a fuse? i have the model 42pf7320a

It could be a fuse but most likely the power supply got damaged. You should get the power supply checked for any defective components on it that would cause cause the TV not to turn on. Most likely damage is the capicators on the power supply in the event of a power surge.

This model is really prone to one problem in particular--screen even briefly comes up bright red, green or blue and set shuts down.

15 seconds from turn on front power light should blink as set checks several things internally---if something wrong it does not let picture show.

Usually after shut down or failure power light will blink a sequence of blinks but not always depending on problem.

Did you see the screen at all go red, green, or blue before?

My TV surname off after 5-15 minutes of use. The red light in the front blinks once every 3 seconds continuously. If I hold the power button down on the tv, it will turn on and do the same thing.

Power surge from storm. Power light turns on for 2-3 seconds and goes off. Previously had a power supply replaced 3 yrs ago. tv is approx 12-15 yrs old.

MOST OF THESE SETS HAVE A SELF DIAGNOSTIC:

UNPLUG TV AND THEN PLUG BACK IN---TURN ON---GREEN POWER LIGHT COMES ONFOR A MOMENT AND GOES OFF.

PRESS AND HOLD "device" and "menu"buttons on front of tv for at least 5 seconds and then release both together.


Watch for power light to blink in a sequence:

1 blink-then 2 blinks-------no error

2 blink-then 1 blink-------X-ray protection

2 blink-then 2 blink-------SHORT PROTECTION*******

2 blink-then 3 blink---------deflection circuit problem

2 blink-then 4 blink---------vertical circuit problem


******2, then 2 is most common---usually means one of the fuses that protectthe Convergence IC or IC's is blown---set will detect no voltage to convergenceIC and shut down.


SET WILL REPEAT BLINK ERROR CODE UP TO 5 TIMES ANDTHEN TO GET IT TO REPEAT MORE YOUHAVE TO UNPLUG SET AND TRY TO TURN ON AGAIN.

RED LIGHT KEEPS BLINKING..WAS LIKE A POWER SURGE THIS MORNING..I UNPLUGED TV OFF MOSNTER SURGE PROTECTOR..CAME HOME AND PLUGED BACK IN...TV RED LIGHT TV REC STILL BLINKING

Surge protectors aren't perfect... If the surge was big enough and long enough then it can cause problems. Most manufacturers have on-board protection as well. That's not perfect either. Often the surge does nothing more than confuse the microprocessor (computer) that controls all aspects of your television. The fact that the red light is blinking means that your set is trying to protect itself. This can happen for one of two reasons. Something in the set has failed. Usually the power supply inside the set possibly also a trouble in the scan section of your set. These are normally a shop repair. The other thing is when the microprocessor is confused it will do nothing further until it's reset. To reset the processor simply unplug the set from the wall and wait 10 minutes. Plug it back in and if it works then happy viewing. If it doesn't then you will need a repair.

If is a failure caused by a failure in the grid that delivers power to your set then you are usually able to file a claim for the repairs. Contact your local power company. explain what happened. If it's their fault then usually they will pay for a repair. I know the PG&E does.

Refer to owners manual ! Blinking indicates the type of fault that is occuring on all your tv sets. example : power light on red - indicator light beside it green but blinks rapidly for half a second rapidly then shuts off. This refers to a faulty lamp or a lamp that is near its expiration. Read your manuals if indicators refer to easy repair sweet, but if it says call tech then bummer...
