For this particular camera it really is not too difficult. Of course, used ones are available for under $50 or you can get a really good upgrade for under $100 (all US $)
The LDC screen most likely broke the screen did not crack by the actual underlying LCD screen broke the only option is to replace the screen or have it replaced at a local camera shop
Have you thought about buying a "junk" one just to have parts for? Maybe place an add in the paper for one with a busted zoom lense for the screen? Or maybe search for a company that deals in "salvage", kind of like a junk yard for camera's.

LCD replacement is compulsary, for that i suggest only kodak shop, because LCD costs same anywhere in the world, onle service charge differs and that is i think not so much.
so go to kodak only..
