Problem began one month ago (and shortly after finishing a custom stand for it).Turn TV on, sound, no picture.Initially switching power on and off 10 or 15 times and picture would appear. As problem progressed had to operate for an hour or 2 with no picture then cycle power once to get picture.
Isolated to HV transformer.30 seconds with hair dryer 3 inches from side of transformer before turning on works every time.
TV will now shut off and flash 6 on the LED after operating for a few hours (getting shorter) If I switch on again within about a minute or two I will have picture. If I wait more than a few minutes, the hair dryer is needed again.
Anyone seen this?Is the transformer replaceable? I’m qualified and competent with a soldering iron. Where can I order the transformer?
Sounds as though there is an intermitant, heat-related problem with the HV transformer. You can order this at a tv parts shop or from Sony (probably more expensive) the part number should be on the part or on a schematic. If not, the parts dealer can look it up from the model number.

It sounds that the IIC Bus circuit shorts bey some faulty components connected to it. The troubleshooting work to this section circuit is very skilled one. If
you are not familiar with electronics, do not attempt to repair. Whether you sufferfatal electrical shock!
Instead, contact the nearest service center.
There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague Please post back what you find.
there are bad solder connections on the pictury tube drive module. have it fixed at a repair shop.. the tech will be mystified that you know what the problem was..lol..
If it is less than a year old than it is still under Warranty from LG. Their Customer Service Number is 1800-243-000. It sounds like to me it needs a Main Board to be replaced. Let LG help you get in touch with a Factory Service Facility to get you back up running again.
I hope this helps,

What is happening is that the Shutdown Circuit is turning the TV off due to excessive current flow. The excessive current flow is most likely the result of a problem in the HV (High Voltage) section of your TV. This could mean that the Horizontal Output Transistor or the Integrated High Voltage Transformer has malfunctioned (developed a short circuit). I would advise that you let a qualified TV technician work on the set due to the nature of this problem.
Hello guys,
TV intercate light up but no picture or logo; Even when you replace all the caps still not powr up the TV. One of the board is defective that will cost the none communicate with other board that cost this problem. it mean some of the ic is burned. But it might come from the power supply, main board or the backlight went out. You need to bring your tv to the service.
Any question please call me at 323-767-6030 and I will go through with you.
It sounds like the Power transistor that drives the High Voltage Transformer shorted out. The rapid clicking sound you are hearing when pressing the power button now is that of the power supply starting to come up, detecting a short circuit and shutting back off again, preventing further damage. It is likely that the HV Transformer is shorted as well which usually causes the Output transistor to fail. Since the set is only 2 1/2 years old, it is probably worthwhile getting it to a repair shop as long as you have been very satisfied with the picture quality up to this point. If the picture size was larger than you needed, you might consider going down to a 37" LCD HDTV set. Toshiba is tops in this category IMHO.
