Click Here for your user manual=> MQU1556AEW.pdf The settings for defrost should come automatically every 12 hours. You may test the defrost timer that appears to be behind the kick plate at base and front bottom of refrigerator by removing the kick plate first and using a flathead screwdriver turn slowly clockwise until compressor stops. After a few minutes you should be able to hear a crackling noise or sizzle by opening the door and listening. Leave the timer like that for up to 35 minutes and if the freezer does not start on its own the the timer is not working properly and will need replaced. Click Here=> MQU1556AEW Unit parts number 15 in photo is defrost timer. The defrost timer is part number=> 4357124 Defrost Timer Check for air leaks around door seal as this will cause the same symptoms. If by chance the defrost timer works and the defrost does not then let me know here or here=> Appliance 911 The only other parts are the defrost heater number 16 in photo MQU1556AEW Unit Parts and part number for defrost heater is Click Here=> 8201749 If you change the defrost heater it is always good to replace the defrost thermostat number 18 in MQU1556AEW Unit Parts The defrost thermostat is part number=> 1-81801-001 The most likely problem is the defrost timer but I needed to cover every possibility. my maytag freezer not wotking correctly, the top shelf not cold, I bought a meat and tryed to put it on the top shelf, unfortunately, my meat went to the garbage and just the botttom shelf takes time to freeze, better than the top shelf

If the fan in the freezer is working , but the compressor is not , then the overload/relay is bad ( pt # 4356738 ) . If you hear nothing , then the defrost timer is bad ( pt # 4357124 ) . This part looks like its located close to the compressor or in one of the corners of fridge on back with about 1/2 " hole to access manual turning slot . Turn the slot and see if fridge starts .

The standard warranty for refrigerators and freerzers is one year on all parts and labor and 5 years parts and labor on the sealed system which consists of the compressor,condenser coil and evaporator coil. This would include loss of freon.

If the door seal does not seal completely, replace it. This is very important for freezers.
Contact Rick at Restaurant Parts and More.
\1-888-814-1110. He can most likely get what you need. Just have model and serial numbers and he'll do the rest.
Home Depot and Lowes is a definite no.

I'm getting ice build up at the top of my Amana upright freeze.

This means the seal at the top is not tight and air is leaking in.

There are 3 possible fixes:
1. Loosen and Rehang the door so that a piece of cash-register receipt paper cannot easily be pulled thru the seal when the door is closed (all the way around) get someone to help. Dont take the door hinge screws out, just loosen them, push the door in to compress seal and tighten them again

2. Replace the seal ($12-30.00) - Take make, model and serial number of the appliance with you to eliminate a return trip.

3/ Treat with Armor All to make gasket seal soft again (2-3x) and give it a wipe all the way around with Vaseline.

I experienced the same problem last week with my freezer. Apparently the change in temperature during defrosting allows the blade locking mechanism to slide on the motor shaft during the spinning operation. The blade pulls itself along the shaft until it comes in contact with the motor mounting bolt. If your freezer just stops getting super cold, but remains cool and you don't hear the fan spinning, remove the inside back panel and check the fan blades for freedom of movement. I almost disposed of the freezer this past week but decided to make one last check of the mechanisms.

Warranty on the sealed system is 5 years parts but only 1 year labor. You have a sealed system leak. Out of warranty repairs for sealed systems are not economically viable. Sorry for the bad news, but that made in China freezer needs to be replaced.
