My nephew recently gave me his old Gameboy Advance SP (original screen) which appears to work fine, except for a problem with the frontlight. Most of the time, the frontlight is not illuminated, regardless of whether the button is pushed. Sometimes, however, if the screen is tilted *all the way* back (past 180 degrees?) the light will come on.
Logic leads me to believe that the backlight itself should be fine and to look at the screen cable as the source of the issue.
I've tried opening the bottom case and checking the connection of the cable to the motherboard which appears to be solid.
I've also tried opening the lcd housing, but it is not clear to me how the cable is attached to the screen.
Anybody have any info on how the SP's screen cable is attached to the screen? Is it separately replaceable? (I've only seen it as part of a new lcd.) Any other advice on what I can check?
Also, any good pointers to take-apart instructions for an SP? I found one set, but they are lacking in places.
Thanks...
