How to reformat an asus aspire 1 netbook

A) It's an Acer Aspire 1 - AOA110, or AOA150.
B) Came with Windows XP, or a version of Linux.
Linpus Linux Lite

Means;
1) You can use a version of Linux, and not use Windows again.
Ubuntu Linux for example, is free.

2) You could use a flashdrive with a data recovery program on it, and try to recover the files that have been written over.
Pretty slim chance of that.

3) You could buy a new, genuine copy of Windows XP, and put Windows XP back on it.

I just bought an Acer Aspire One Netbook. Maybe I'm just crazy but everything comes up but when I open a new window, for ex: Ebay.com and I try to enter my information to sign in, I am unable to type the...

  1. Apple laptops are beautiful, but I can't imagine the average user who spends all their time in the web browser paying 3 to 4 times the price of a netbook for a Mac laptop. Macs are brilliantly designed, it's true, but that's a hell of a tax to run Safari.

  2. Speaking of taxes, what about the Microsoft Tax? I'm already heavily infatuated with the current iteration of netbooks as represented by the Aspire. And they can only get better and cheaper over time. Imagine a machine with the same specs as the Aspire One but at $299, $199, maybe even $99. It's going to happen. It's inevitable. This is a huge opening for Linux; it's the ideal way to deliver a complete, modern web browser at nearly zero marginal cost to both the vendor and consumer.

  3. The booming growth of netbooks will keep Windows XP alive much longer than expected. As much as I like Vista as a solid (if not stellar) upgrade from XP, the prehistoric 2001 era system requirements for XP still make it a better choice for these kinds of devices. 1 GB of memory is roomy; a measly 16 GB of disk space plenty. Can't say that for Vista. No sir. It's also an opportunity for Microsoft to play games with the Linux market by reducing the price of XP to crazy low, fire sale, everything-must-go levels. But only for "select" and "preferred" OEM vendors, of course, not for the common folks on the street.
I won't lie. One of the attractions of this particular model is that it runs Windows XP, an operating system I, and every other software vendor on the planet, know by heart. It'll run whatever without me having to think too much about it. But I could easily see myself leaving some of that potential flexibility on the table if the price dropped to $199 or so. If it runs Firefox 3, or Chrome, or Opera, that's about all I need.

The os is to frustrating linux is not for me ..xp is what I want .need to get linux out then install xp.

The particular model of Asus is apparently pre-loaded with Xandros Linux operating system.

It appears that you are not familiar with Linux and hence the apprehension and feeling that a shift to XP would be easier.

Why not give Linux a try ? There are a good many websites out there which go through the basics of using a Linux PC. Try them out, by spending some time in learning - you will get far more satisfaction and become more productive in using your laptop.

Some websites which might be of assistance to you are listed below:-

Windows on the acer aspire one 110-AB

I do not believe this ...the only way is if there is a dual boot system installed so when you boot it should prompt you to choose the op sys ya want to run ...the solution is as fallows...either you install the windows xp ...but I heard about problems with some notebooks that came with Linux cause the HDD is too small to support windows,,,( ex 2G...) and if you install it you will not have room for anything else ..if you dont want to mess with this my solution is .. web msn messenger ..so you will be able to use it without install it ...

Downloading skype onto my acer aspire one netbook

For aspire one you need to download the Fedora 7 package from the Skype Website.

Afterwards, just do what your aspire asks you to do. When everything is installed, just press alt+F2, type in "skype", en press "Run". Skype will start up. That's it
