I have a similar problem. The focusing joystick has just stopped working. Been trawling the net for weeks trying to find a solution (out of warranty, typically). Have you had any luck solving your problem?

Auto focus does not work. no af assist lamp camera is DMC-FZ7

you can use a laser pointer or mini flashlight point at the subject to replace the AF assist lamp. When the AF locked, turn the light off then press the shutter.

DMC-FZ7 Panasonic digital camera won't focus when zoomed

Your camera focus problem mostly deal with machanical parts. So changing them easily will solve the problem. But unfortunately you may not do it yourself. Because it is highly complicated process. In deed it needs lots of repairing devices which are found only in services. According to me the service had given you the best answer. Please accept their advice. Good luck.

Pictures duplicating

Hi,

I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ7, and there is one setting that I know of which will cause two images to be recorded:

#1. Open both photos in the computer and check the ending of the file name. One of them will say ".jpg" or ".jpeg" and the other photo will say ".tif" or ".tiff".

#2. If this is the case and you want smaller, compressed pictures, turn off the TIFF setting in your camera. It should say how to do this in the user-manual.

DMC-FZ7 problems

Have you tried switching the mode dial to a flower icon?

The mode with the flower icon is the macro mode, you can shoot up to 5 cm from the subject.

Also, if you are very close to the subject, then the auto-focus may not function properly if the targeting area is not centered on the subject.

When I shoot macro with my FZ7K, I use manual focus, the auto-focus generally has trouble focusing up close.

I would suggest trying manual focus.
