If you have a red/white "x" on the volume icon next to the clock in the system tray then most likely the driver to the audio device is either damaged or the driver is corrupted or missing. Go to support.toshiba.com and go to download and look up your model. Change the filter to "sound" and look for a new audio driver. Download and install and this should fix your problem.

If you are getting a big 'NO' symbol when using the volume keys to adjust it, it means your speakers are not being recognized as a valid output source.

Try resetting your SMC:

If that doesn't work, it will likely need repair. Call 1-800-MY-APPLE if issue persists after resetting the SMC.

Speaker volume like small baby

To fix the volume control re-install the drivers of the laptop and in the right lower corner you will see a speaker like symbol where you can control the volume. Increse the volume from there.

My microsoft optical mouse isnt working on my lap top the red light is not working anymore so i cant get on my laptop so how do i fix it?

Replace worn out batteries in it. If that isnt the problem then access the BIOS screen by booting laptop up and pressing DEL key, search for setting that lists infra red laptop pad, enable and save / /reboot.

Volume isn't working at all! Tried adjusting volume, turning mute on and off, and it still isn't working!

Hi, best thing to check is the drivers, goto control panel, system, device manager and look for any yellow or red symbols beside any of the devices, if there is it probably just need the drivers installed if it aint probably the sound on the motherboard is gone and would suggest a external soundcard as it will cost alot to fix or replace the motherboard.

Hope it helps

Volume only works with headphones in

Hi pujak,

The little red "null" symbol you describe indicates you've got the "Mute" turned on (bypassed by headphones). Either go into System Preferenced/Sound and adjust that, or use the F3 or F4 keys (it's F3 on my MacBookPro) to toggel it on/off.

If I can be of further assistance, or if you have questions about any of my response(s), please let me know before rating me.

If this solves the issue, please rate it accordingly. My goal is to earn a "FixYa" rating from everyone I help.

Thanks for using Fixya.com,
