Not receiving some faxes

I'm not receiving faxes from some companies but having no trouble whatsoever from other people. I spoke to the company who sold us this machine and she offered no help at all. I'm not sure if this problem is listed in our manual but they are pretty confusing and make one jump from page to page and manual to manual to figure something out. Some further details would be, in the past we never had problems with this, our phone system went down a couple of months ago, and after we repaired the system we have trouble receiving faxes. As a matter of fact I think most of the people who we have trouble with have long distance numbers, not sure if that has anything to do with it. With a few locals having problems as well. We hear the machine trying to accept the fax and we hear the dial tone after several failed attempts. I think this should cover most of it, any help would be really appreciated.
Thank You

Hi , this problem are mainly caused by country code settings in the machine it might be that the country code settings were cleared some companys does not put the jumper on the battery on the back of the fax unit so when there is a power failure the country code resets back to default if you can tell me wich country you are i can get you the correct code and send you the prosedure on how to correct this .

I'm having trouble accepting faxes on my Lexmark

for most phone companies, you may send faxes from your home phone number but to recieve faxes you need to add another phone line, like a business or additional home line. hope this helps please rate me and thanks for choosing enterprise computing solutions.

I can fax out but I can't receive faxes.

What happens if you dial your fax number the way you make a normal voice call? Does the fax machine pick the line up? Can you hear it making electronic noises? Do you hear any static or line noise?
Try also putting a regular phone on the fax line and attempt to make voice calls to test the lin quality. Listen for static, noise, volume issues. Report problems to your telecom company if you have trouble in voice calls.

Having trouble receiving faxes, takes several times of someone sending to me to receive.

First thing to check is the condition of the phone line, if the machine has a handset make a phone call from the handset, is the line clear? Is there any static or Echos on the line?
Is the machine on a shared line with computers or an answering machine?
Call the Fax machine from a phone, is the line clear? did the machine generate its handshake burst? Did anything else try to answer the line?
Check the phone cable input, it should be going onto the LINE jack on the back of the machine.

Receiving a fax on my Lexmark X6170

for these companies, try disconnecting the phone tremporarily to see if thsi is interferring just with these particular faxes. Sometimes if a company's fax is set to phone/fax, it may be trying to call you first beacuse ths would be the default settings. If it detects no phone it may by default accept your fax no problems. Hope this helps.

Fax confirmations

i have read the manual end to end and I don't think you can.
Only thing I see is this.

Customizing your settings using the Lexmark Fax Solutions You can adjust the fax settings in the Lexmark Fax Solutions. These settings apply to the faxes you send or receive.
  1. Click Start onestep.gif Programs onestep.gif Lexmark 7100 Series onestep.gif Lexmark Fax Solutions.
  2. Click Adjust speed dial list and other fax settings. hfaxsetutil.jpg
  3. Click each tab and change the settings as desired.
  4. Press Save Settings after you finish your updates. Nothing is saved until you press this button.
  5. Click Close.
The following table contains the Setup and Settings tabs for the Lexmark Fax Solutions.
On this tab
You can
Personalize
  • Enter your company name and fax number.
  • Enter your name, company name, phone number and address as you want them to appear your cover page.
  • Select a cover page for your fax.
Send
  • Choose to use error correction.
  • Choose to use fax header.
  • Select a maximum send speed and a print quality for outgoing faxes.
  • Choose whether to scan the entire document before dialing the number.
  • Select when to print a fax usage report.
  • Select when to print a fax activity report
Select when to print an activity report is the only close item I can find. Nothing whatsoever about a confirmation report.

Brother Intellifax 2820

It could be a compatibility issues between the two faxes. If the other fax is particularly old its communication speed could be too slow for your fax.

Also don't rule out the line on there end. Many times in my job I've had Telephone company's check the line remotely and say its ok but its not until they come out to site that they find an actual fault.

Do a manual reception. Put your fax reception mode from automatic to manual. When the fax rings in pick up the line with the hook or speaker phone button and then press the start button. This rules out a fair part of the line correction. If you can receive of course.
