The on button isn't working/holding down. I.E. If I keep holding the button down the vacuum works, it's just that everytime I release my finger the vacuum turns off.
It may be possible to fix the switch before you replace it.

The ratchet mechanism within the power switch has failed.
There is no "fix" for this other than to repalce the switch with a new one.
If you have good DIY skills and tools, and feel competent to work on electrical devices, then it is possible to do this yourself, however Dyson dont make it easy !
The plastic switch covers (the bit you actually press) are normally held in place by a hidden plastic tag that is released using a narrow, flat tool such as a very small screwdriver or flat file. If you look very carefully at the switch cover, you should be able to see a very small "slot" on one side in to which you place the flat tool and "feel" for the tag. Once the swicth cover is removed, you can then access the switch.
Replacement switches are normally available on eBay.
If all this sounds a bit daunting, take it to a repair shop, or call Dyson helpline.
