If there is no button on tv, the best bet is buying a universal remote and programming it for that tv

SOURCE: Buttons on TV or remote not working. Can only cycle through video input options.

It sounds as though the TVs in a demo mode. Has someone recently been over and was playing with the remote. If so go into the menu of the tV set and look for set up and demo mode. Turn off the demo mode. if this doesent help call i-866-427-3946 and talk to the customer service deptartment. Good Luck

How to change input on older model magnavox tv remote

Some of the old sets input/tv-video are only on the original remote.

If no buttons exist on the set you may be out of luck---One possible thing to try depending on age of set:

Some if you scan the channel button down below channel 2 you may find the input is on a channel for example 91-99.

Good luck and hope you get it working.

Isn't this just a simple hookup? What am I not doing?

You either need to change the input source. Currently the source is TV, depending on how you connected the DVD player to the TV, it should be composite (A/V), component video or HDMI. (S-video is also a possibility. Very few DVD players are connected on the RF (coax) input which might be channel 3 or 4 without having a converter between the DVD player and the TV.)

Look on your TV remote for a button marked Source or Input. You may also find this button on the TV. (On some TVs, this may also be accessed through the menus.)

How did you connect the TV and the DVD player? If your audio and video were connected via three RCA plugs (yellow, red, white) on each end, then use the composite video input. If you used cables with 3 RCA plugs for video (yellow, green, blue) and 2 for audio (red/white), then switch to the component input. If you used HDMI which carries audio and video in one cable (with rectangular ends), then use the HDMI input.

Some older TVs only have the Source/Input button on their original remote. Not all universal replacement remotes have this button, you may need a different remote. Those that do may require you to try additional codes for your TV manufacturer to enable the button. (The on./off buttons often will work with more of the codes for a brand.) The ones that can be programmed via a USB connection to a computer are most likely to support the function. Please add a comment with the type of TV for additional help with this.

I hope this helps.

I have an older sharp tv from an older sibling and the cable works, but I'm trying to connect what I believe to be an older dvd player to it. The dvd player has the 3 color cords (red yellow and white)...

Those modes you gave are for what TYPE of signal is comming in to the Cable/Antenna connector.
You need to switch from that input device to the other input device, the RCA plugs. These are often displayed as Aux or perhaps Line etc. It would help if you had the remote from the tv and were able to choose Aux or Line, or if it has TV/Video button. But if not, try channel button on the tv itself and go down below Ch 1. If using the cable remote to control TV, it may have a TV/Video button too. Maybe.
Good luck

The set was left to play DVD and I do not know how to get it 'back' to be able to view TV

Which TV do you have? For most "modern tvs", there will be an input or source button on the remote. Press this button to switch inputs and eventually get back to the TV source. Some TVs have a button for the Input or Source on the TV itself. On a few older TVs, the button was marked TV/Video but did the same thing.

An exception: if you have a cable or satellite set top box, you may need to do an extra step. These require you to set the TV on a specific channel depending on the box (Ch3, 4, 60 (Dish Network)) Thus you need to change the input and then the channel if needed.

If you have a tv that uses the input button on the remote but does not have a matching button on the TV, then you need to replace the remote with one that has the feature. Some original remotes are available from remotes.com (search using the tv model number but not the manufacturer). Universal remotes may have a matching button except for the cheapest ones. However, you will need to try multiple codes to find the one that enables the input button. The universal remotes that can be programmed via a USB connection with a computer are the fastest to set up.

For a combination TV, you may need to press a TV/VCR or TV/DVD button on the remote.

I hope this helps. If you need additional assistance, please add a comment with your TV model number and brand. I may have the manual available.

How do I change my remote for TV to Input Video 1?

There should be a button on your remote denoting "Input." If you connect the DVD player to the TV on "video input 1" then push the input button on the remote or TV itself until the DVD appears on your TV (which will be Video 1). Some TVs must have the component (in your case) the "DVD" player connected to the TV before the TV will recognize it. Make sure the DVD is powered up and then push the input button until the DVD player appears on the TV. Depending on your TV inputs, there may be multiple inputs like, Video, Component, DVI, or HDMI. The above are listed in the respective order of "quality." HDMI being the best. Whatever input you hook the DVD player up to on the TV will be the "input" you will look for when pressing the input button. Hope this helps.

Phillips 19 inch TV/VCR combo --no remote--can't change channels

Hi,
I cannot be sure of the exact model but... Press and hold the TV's volume up and volume down buttons simultaneously. On many older televisions, this opens the device menu without the use of a remote. Otherwise, use the menu button, which you can navigate in a similar fashion.
Also, somewhere should be an input button. Press it multiple times times to switch between various inputs (the input must match whatever input you are using). Usually after these menus are opened you can use vol up vol down to change things.
