Sounds like it could be either a bad speaker, a shorted speaker wire, or a bad output ic inside the deck.

WE HAVE JUSTUST BOUGHT AND USED CAR AND IT HAS COME WITH A KENWOOD DDX-0512 RADIO/CD PLAYER BUT WE CANNOT GET IT TO WORK AS IT KEEPS FLASHING "PROTECT

There should be a code that the past owner forwarded you or left inside the owners manual. I found this great video on Youtube that should help you if your stuck. Good Luck.

My stereo keep flashing protect

hi johney, this function is an internal protection system linked to the amplifier circuit, there is either an internal fault OR a setting that must be reset by your kenwood repair agent OR there is a problem detected by your unit with the speaker wiring or the speakers directly. by yourself try resetting the unit to see what comes about, if the fauly persists then its best to refer to your kenwood repair agent. good luck. cheers.

It just started flashing protect is there a reset button somewhere

"PROTECT" :- The speaker wire has a short-circuit or touches the chassis of the vehicle, and then the protection function is activated. Wire or insulate the speaker cable properly and press the reset button. If the "PROTECT" code does not disappear, consult your nearest service center. Reset is a tiny little hole hole to the right of preset buttons along bottom of unit, Insert paperclip to reset to factory settings?
Good luck with it

A speaker wire has a short-circuit, crossed, or touches the chassis of the vehicle it activates the protection mode function.
? Wire or insulate the speaker cable properly and press the reset button. If the "PROTECT" code does not disappear, consult your nearest service center.
I have attached a link for you which is for a free Kenwood KDC-MP443U instruction manual download. Nice receiver by the way!

My kenwood kdc-mp53u flashes PROTECT whats wrong with it?

Protect indicates that there is a short or a grounding problem usually within the speakers2_bing.gif or the speaker wiring. Locate and press the reset button (pinhole). If protect comes back then disconnect all speakers, reset and connect them back one at a time until protect shows up again. This will help you find out where the unwanted DC signal is coming from. If protect shows up when all speakers are disconnected, then it may need service.

when its hook up press the tiny reset or go online to kenwood for the mater reset code for the model reciever you have that is a security feature kenwood has on its stereos when they are stolen only thing it doesnt know when the battery dies on a car or is removed. anyway kenwood has a master or check you manual. the preset station number are what you press for typing in the code.

Security Code for Protect mode

Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!

Security

"Protect" isn't for security on a Kenwood; it's caused by a problem with the speaker output. There may be a defect in the CD player, or you may have a blown speaker or a shorted speaker wire in the vehicle. Try disconnecting all the speakers and see if the unit still shows "protect" when you turn it on. If it still shows the "protect" message with no speakers connected, the unit needs to be serviced; if not, re-connect the speakers one at a time until you find out which one is causing the problem.
